Rising Academies takes its Rori AI maths tutor into government schools
Rising Academies — Government schools in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Rwanda and Ghana are getting Rori, the AI maths tutor Rising Academies delivers over WhatsApp, chief technology officer Shabnam Aggarwal told Semafor. The adaptive tutoring service adjusts to each pupil, copes with weak connectivity and backs classrooms short of staff. In a 2023 Oxford and J-PAL study of 500 students over eight months, two 30-minute weekly sessions beat a control group by about a year's schooling.
Princeton opens a university-managed ChatGPT to all faculty and staff
Princeton University — Princeton University staff, faculty and academic professionals can now request Princeton ChatGPT, a campus-managed service offering discounted ChatGPT Plus and Pro licences, through a one-year OpenAI enterprise pilot, Provost Jennifer Rexford announced. OpenAI may not train on material university users submit. Students become eligible in January after completing an AI-use training module.
Bayelsa Medical University brings in AI-powered robotic tutors
Bayelsa Medical University — Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa, now uses AI-powered robotic tutors in AI medical education, unveiled by Governor Douye Diri with its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan as a support for lecturers. Dimie Ogoina, the vice-chancellor, added a studio for virtual reality, AI and mixed reality, plus simulation in the clinical skills laboratory, as wider AI-assisted training takes shape.
Rwanda's AI English training for teachers passes 90,000 participants
Ministry of Education / Rwanda Basic Education Board — Over 90,000 participants have joined AI English training from the Ministry of Education and Rwanda Basic Education Board on Efekta Education's platform, aiming for 150,000. Begun in July 2025 with 16,000, the scheme is funded by the Mastercard Foundation and World Bank's Quality Basic Education for Human Capital Development programme. Company data show AI-assisted coaching lifting first-cohort learners from A2 to B1, many to B2 or C1.
Slovakia gives teachers free ChatGPT, Mistral, Gemini and Copilot accounts
Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic — The Ministry of Education now gives primary and secondary teachers free premium ChatGPT, Mistral, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot accounts, AI tools for teachers. Head teachers choose up to three per staff member in DigiEdu: ChatGPT and Mistral are uncapped, Gemini (20,000 licences) and Microsoft 365 Copilot (24,500) limited. Switching on the classroom AI may take weeks.
AI micro-credential enrolments in Nigeria rise 93%, Coursera reports
Coursera — AI micro-credential enrolment rose 93 per cent and critical thinking certification 113 per cent, Coursera's Global Skills Report 2026 (released 28 September 2026) shows, the strongest AI skills in Nigeria figures. AI security sign-ups jumped 137 per cent, generative AI 126 and AI courses 28 per cent year on year. On the new AI-Human Skills Synergy Index, drawn from 300 million Coursera and Udemy learners, the country ranks fifth of 11 Sub-Saharan African countries and 81st worldwide for AI learning uptake.
AI course enrolments in South Africa rise 75%, Coursera reports
Coursera — AI course enrolments grew 75% year over year and critical thinking enrolments 132%, Coursera's Global Skills Report 2026 (released 28 September 2026) shows, the headline AI skills in South Africa figures. AI security enrolments surged 236%, agentic workflows 195%, generative AI 161%, complex problem-solving 28%, innovation 19%. On the new AI-Human Skills Synergy Index, drawn from 300 million-plus Coursera and Udemy learners, the country ranks second of 11 Sub-Saharan African countries and 73rd worldwide for AI learning uptake.
Frequent AI use lifts grades but not deeper skills, Ugandan university study finds
Five Ugandan universities (Discover Artificial Intelligence study) — Students who leaned on generative AI often reported markedly better grades, but heavy use showed almost no measurable link to the deeper competencies the competence-based education reform targets, a survey of 565 respondents (513 students, 52 academic staff) at five universities found, rare AI in higher education evidence. Mabirizi and colleagues published the cross-sectional study in Discover Artificial Intelligence on 23 September 2026, sampling Kabale University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Bishop Stuart University, Uganda Martyrs University and Busitema University. They warn that online convenience sampling may bring self-selection and technology-access bias, a limit on the university AI findings.
Emory opens Claude for Education to students, faculty and staff
Emory University — Anyone at Emory University, whether student, faculty member or employee, may now apply for Claude for Education (Claude EDU) from Anthropic. Adding to existing AI tools for students, the move advances the AI.Humanity aim of campus AI that serves humanity.
Cameroon bans AI tools for nursery and primary pupils' schoolwork
Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB) — Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, Minister of Basic Education, has barred nursery and primary pupils from ChatGPT, Meta AI on WhatsApp, Gemini, Copilot and similar apps for classwork and homework, a Cameroon AI regulation effective at once in state, private, international and faith schools. Regional delegates relay the circular. Officials argue children who outsource answers lose the effort behind literacy, numeracy and reasoning; teachers may still plan lessons with AI.
University of Ghana gives 96,000 staff and students Google's Gemini
University of Ghana — More than 96,000 Gemini for Education licences now cover University of Ghana students and faculty under a Google partnership, an AI in higher education rollout. Lecturers and administrators spent two days practising with the AI assistant on teaching, research and office tasks, and will now coach peers and students as departmental champions.
ORT South Africa launches Funda Nam AI study companion in three languages
ORT South Africa — ORT South Africa has released Funda Nam, 'Study with Me', an AI study companion reserved for beneficiaries of its Big Data Analytics course for young people from underserved communities. GAS Marketing Automation supplied the infrastructure and know-how; the web platform draws on the programme's own curriculum, works in English, isiZulu and isiXhosa, and lets learners revise at their own pace, any hour, with the AI tutoring tool.
Portugal opens consultation on non-binding AI guidelines for schools
Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (Portugal) — The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation has opened a 30-day consultation on Portugal AI regulation: the 'Orientações para uso responsável da Inteligência Artificial na Educação', hosted by EduQA, the Instituto de Educação, Qualidade e Avaliação. Minister Fernando Alexandre told Lusa this school guidance stays advisory. Pre-schoolers would not use AI tools themselves, and classrooms get the final text on 4 January 2027.
59% of US K-12 educators used AI tools last school year, Gallup finds
Gallup and Walton Family Foundation — A Walton Family Foundation-Gallup poll of 1,952 US K-12 educators, run 28 July to 14 August 2026, shows 59% relied on AI tools at work during 2025-2026. Close to two-thirds of those users report gaining hours for the most rewarding parts of teaching; 7% say the technology cost them time.
Russia will put AI modules in every university programme from 2027
Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation — Valery Falkov's ministry will put AI modules in higher education into every Russian degree from 2027, as agreed with the Alliance in the Field of Artificial Intelligence. Some 1,433 programmes already offer such AI teaching.
Ticino sets out a plan to bring AI into compulsory schooling from 2027
Canton of Ticino — Canton Ticino will phase AI in schools from 2027, formally from January once the text is finalised in late November. Primary pupils will not use these tools; lower-secondary use stays under teacher supervision, with short modules inside existing lessons and a privacy-minded teacher platform on Apertus, the first Swiss large language model. The Centro di risorse didattiche e digitali (CERDD) drew up this classroom AI plan after testing it with five classes.
Sharjah Maritime Academy puts an agentic AI platform into every course
Sharjah Maritime Academy — Sharjah Maritime Academy switched on SMA LearnAI, embedding agentic AI in maritime education across every course via its learning management system. Learners get quizzes, flashcards, mind maps, podcasts and a virtual professor; faculty get an AI Copilot for lesson plans, pathways and auto-graded assessments. Educators still vet the AI course assistant.
Sharjah sets an ethical framework for AI in private schools
Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) — Sharjah Private Education Authority published a reference and ethics framework setting AI in education policy across UAE schools in the emirate. Those classroom AI rules assign duties to principals, teachers, pupils, IT staff, specialists and parents.
IIT Kharagpur launches NDLI-FERMI AI tutor for students
IIT Kharagpur — IIT Kharagpur offers the NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor, built with Fermi AI, free to registered National Digital Library of India (NDLI) users. This AI learning assistant nudges students along with hints, and Scan & Ask spans Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar unveiled the study aid at the IIT Kharagpur Research Park, Rajarhat, Kolkata, with a free GATE and JAM preparation platform.
Russia will make an AI course compulsory for pupils in grades 5 to 11
Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation — Education minister Sergei Kravtsov told the Innopolis Digital Days forum that Russia will pilot AI education in schools through a combined artificial intelligence and information security course from this year's second quarter. Mandatory AI classes follow for grades 5 to 11 from 2027/2028.
Dubai's KHDA uses AI to choose how each private school is inspected
Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) — Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority began AI school inspections in term one of the 2026-27 academic year, with software assigning each eligible private school a visit type from its data and maturity. Schools get a full review with report and overall rating, or a brief check-in without re-rating, on 24 hours' notice at most. Fatma Belrehif, CEO of KHDA's Quality Assurance and Compliance Agency, explained this algorithm-guided visit planning.
Tashkent will extend AI attendance cameras to 302 more schools
Tashkent City Administration (khokimiyat) — Tashkent's mayor ordered on 6 October that AI attendance tracking in schools reach another 302 city schools during 2027–2028. A pilot already runs 446 smart cameras with Face ID across 26 Sergeli district schools, logging pupils' arrival and lesson attendance. Officials also plan to mine the facial-recognition roll call to explain absences and compare teaching approaches, pupil activity and lesson organisation by teacher, class and subject.
Panama equips public-school teachers with 54,000 offline AI laptops
Ministry of Education (Meduca) — The Ministry of Education (Meduca) is handing out 54,000 Copilot+ PCs, AI laptops for teachers that run language models locally with no internet link. Staff can draft tests, revision sheets and lesson outlines and design visuals in Intel AI Playground. So far 28,585 units are formally accepted and 25,415 outstanding under a $26,619,300 contract (before ITBMS) won by assembler ISGroup, or $492.95 each. Panama wants every state-sector educator on these offline teaching computers, remote schools first.
San Miguel de Tucumán pilots SMT EstudIA, an AI platform for its schools
Municipalidad de San Miguel de Tucumán — The Municipalidad de San Miguel de Tucumán is piloting SMT EstudIA, an AI platform for schools from the Dirección de Inteligencia Artificial, with one class each at Alfonsina Storni and Gabriela Mistral. Teachers generate exercises, plan lessons, record marks and condense documents into revision notes. Warnings flag pupils falling behind, parents follow results on mobiles, and Migue, a classroom AI assistant, answers pupils under fixed limits; more year groups follow.
Pakistan's HEC trains university administrators in applied AI
Higher Education Commission of Pakistan — Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) is holding AI training for university administrators in grades BPS-17 to 19 from 7 to 9 October 2026 at the National Academy of Higher Education, with up to five officers per university. Assistant registrars, controllers and treasurers learn uses in admissions, examinations and records, and more applied-AI upskilling is planned at regional centres in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.
Khalifa University says its AI platform cuts professors' admin time by 60%
Khalifa University — Khalifa University credits its home-built AI learning platform with saving faculty 60 per cent of hours on paperwork, lesson planning, writing exams and marking, President Prof. Ebrahim Al Hajri says. Every student gets an agentic study assistant stocked with coursework from first year to graduation. Over 220 Abu Dhabi private school teachers have learned the tool, and a TAMM link would reach roughly 220,000 pupils; the 60 per cent claim lacks independent evaluation.
Frederick County schools ban student AI use weeks after a Gemini pilot
Frederick County Board of Education — The Frederick County Board of Education in Maryland voted 6-1 to bar student AI use from pre-K to 12th grade, weeks after middle and high schools began trialling Google's Gemini. Members cited cheating and over-reliance that stunts critical thinking. Carve-outs cover lessons about the technology and disability accommodations.
Hong Kong police roll out NSmarties AI learning platform to schools
Hong Kong Police Force — The Hong Kong Police Force and Hong Kong Qianfan Technology have put the Education Bureau-backed NSmarties AI Interactive Platform in schools. The AI national security education tool uses real-time generative AI for storybooks, short videos and quizzes. Some 700 teachers and students attended the security lessons' launch at Precious Blood Primary School (South Horizons).
University of Alberta pilots LearnWise AI course assistants in Canvas
University of Alberta — University of Alberta students and instructors have LearnWise AI assistants inside Canvas for a pilot running September 2026 to May 2027. Replies within a class draw only on instructor-uploaded content, and any instructor can disable the course assistant. Lecture material and student chats stay out of commercial model training, the university states.
Turkmen engineering university brings AI analytics to 4,700 undergraduates
Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan — Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan has phased in its home-built Electronic University platform since September, adding AI academic analytics. Some 4,700 undergraduates, 200 master's students, more than 250 teachers and researchers and about 30 administrators share one system, with staff logging attendance and marks digitally. The learning analytics pinpoint subjects where students struggle and need extra help.
Senegal to train 105,000 teachers in AI under FORCE N programme
Ministère de l'Éducation nationale — Senegal's Ministry of National Education will give 105,000 teachers AI training under the FORCE N programme, Minister Moustapha Guirassy said on 30 September 2026. The Université Numérique Cheikh Hamidou Kane runs it with the Mastercard Foundation, building artificial intelligence skills nationwide. Guirassy also handed 5,000 computers to secondary pupils.
Nine in ten Romanian teenagers use AI for learning or creativity
Google; Livity — Google's The Future Report puts AI use among teenagers in Romania at nine in ten monthly for study or creative work, drawn from 1,000 respondents aged 16 to 18 polled by Livity. Homework help pulls 49% to student AI regularly.
California requires public colleges to train students and staff in generative AI
Office of the Governor of California — Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2392, obliging the California Community Colleges and California State University, and urging the University of California, to offer generative AI training to students, faculty and staff, reviewed yearly with completion records. A joint working group will propose procurement and AI instruction standards by 1 January 2028; systemwide contracts trigger a report to the Legislature within 60 days.
Eduardo Mondlane University approves a directive on AI use
Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) — Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) has adopted a university AI policy, the Directive for the Use of Artificial Intelligence, setting norms for accountable use across teaching, research and management. Leaders disclosed the decision at a 30 September–1 October workshop in Mozambique that began mapping an institution-wide rollout. Officials call this campus AI governance move a start, with duties, procedures and means yet undefined.
UWI brings in IntegraGuard to check student work for AI misuse
The University of the West Indies — University of the West Indies is rolling out IntegraGuard, an AI integrity checker developed with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), on every campus this academic year. Cave Hill principal Professor Clive Landis pairs the academic integrity software with interviews, presentations and in-person exams, while UWI policy wants learners AI literate. An IT specialist warns original work could still be wrongly flagged and punished.
Ohio State will launch a Google AI assistant for advising and registrar services
The Ohio State University — The Ohio State University will launch a 24/7 Google Cloud AI assistant for AI academic advising, registrar help and career planning, the university said. Campuswide Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook access via Google for Education is also promised, plus an Innovation District AI space with Google DeepMind collaborations; no launch date for this advising assistant was given.
Nye County School District pilots MagicSchool AI for teachers
Nye County School District — Nye County School District teachers in Nevada are trialling AI lesson planning on MagicSchool AI, building worksheets and rubrics beside existing Google Gemini access. Pupils join on 1 November in restricted spaces. A grant covers costs until the school year ends; the pilot phase lasts through December.
Yucatán to roll out Getmee's AI coaching to 21,000 students
Government of the State of Yucatán — The Government of the State of Yucatán will extend Getmee's AI coaching for university students to 21,000 learners at 18 public higher-education institutions, via Mexican partner Ominio. Statewide launch is due in October 2026, following a 2025 pilot with about 1,000 students at four public universities. The Australian coaching tool earns students academic credit.
Mexico City bill would write AI literacy into the education law
Congress of Mexico City — PAN deputy Ricardo Rubio Torres has tabled a bill in the Congress of Mexico City adding Article 4 Bis to the Ley de Educación de la Ciudad de México, a Mexico City AI policy proposal making AI literacy part of the statute. The Comisión de Educación, Ciencia, Tecnología, Innovación e Inteligencia Artificial will now review the AI literacy rule.
Government of Punjab — Punjab's AI Curriculum and Training Initiative will deliver AI training for teachers to 160,000 educators. Ali Dar, adviser on AI to the Chief Minister, unveiled the classroom skills drive; no schedule or cost has been published.
480 professionals complete UNESWA generative AI programmes in 2026
University of Eswatini (UNESWA) — Generative AI training programmes at Eswatini's UNESWA AI Academy produced 480 graduates in 2026. 350 completed Mastering Generative AI for Professionals and roughly 130 finished Generative AI for Educators, out of over 570 sign-ups for these applied AI skills courses.
UAE ministry lets AI check scholarship documents, cutting applications to five minutes
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE) — UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has opened a portal for AI scholarship applications, shrinking form fields from 22 to four and stages from five to three. Machine reading now checks uploaded paperwork, identity details come straight from linked state registries, and contracts get e-signed. Students need just two documents and as little as five minutes thanks to this automated scholarship processing.
Tulane launches TulaneAI, a private AI platform for faculty and staff
Tulane University — Tulane University has rolled out TulaneAI, a private generative AI platform offering faculty and staff the latest chatbot models. Hosted on Microsoft Azure, the campus AI service lets users pick models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, DeepSeek or xAI, with no data stored or used for model training.
Lüderitz school opens two AI tutoring labs worth N$1.15 million
Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School — Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School in Lüderitz has opened two AI tutoring labs worth N$1.15 million, funded by BW Kudu (N$900,000) and the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) (N$250,000). YYeni AI's software coaches pupils step by step and doubles as a classroom helper for staff, backed by teacher training and a resident support specialist. YYeni counts over 4,940 tutoring hours and 2,253 practice tests logged in the machine-guided study rooms.
Marietta City Schools pilots MagicSchool AI district-wide
Marietta City Schools — Marietta City Schools in Ohio is piloting MagicSchool AI, a K-12 AI platform, with every educator and student district-wide. Data security drove the choice: MagicSchool is built so user information is never shared or sold. Rather than banning classroom AI, district leaders see the pilot as practical digital literacy training.
Nám (Faroese Education Authority) and Mentamálaráðið (Ministry of Culture) — Four Faroese bodies — Nám, Mentamálaráðið, Undirvísingarstýrið and Fróðskaparsetur Føroya — co-authored a new AI strategy for the Faroese education sector. Targets for 2027, 2029 and 2032 anchor four themes: classroom practice, exams, skills-building, and research. The launch signals the islands' opening move on AI in schools policy.
Florida orders AI policies in every school and state college
Florida Board of Education — Florida's Board of Education has voted to fold AI policy for schools into every district and charter internet safety policy, governing student and teacher use, safety and data protection. Districts must publish their policies and an accessible list of approved AI instructional tools, then report those tools to the Florida Department of Education. Parents and guardians may opt a child in or out of direct AI interaction, with a non-AI alternative guaranteed; Florida College System institutions face parallel rules on academic integrity, privacy protection and AI literacy. This AI schools regulation takes force by July 1, 2027.
Midland Public Schools opens SchoolAI to every secondary student
Midland Public Schools — Midland Public Schools in Michigan has opened SchoolAI, its AI tool for students and teachers, to every middle and high school pupil after a spring pilot. Engineering teacher Corey Spurling says SchoolAI can create worksheets and translate, and he built a classroom AI assistant pupils can quiz instead of waiting for him.
Mozambique drafts rules for AI use from primary school to university
Ministry of Education and Culture (Mozambique) — The Ministry of Education and Culture plans to put Mozambique AI regulation for classrooms and campuses before the Council of Ministers by year end, Minister Samaria Tovela told the 4th National Conference on Distance Education in Maputo. Drafting is far along. The artificial intelligence rules will apply nationwide, from primary to higher education, with generative tools a chief concern.
Central Bosnia Canton will pilot AI teaching assistants in three subjects
Ministry of Education, Science, Youth, Culture and Sports of Central Bosnia Canton — Central Bosnia Canton's Ministry of Education, Science, Youth, Culture and Sports will pilot AI teaching assistants through Roboznalac, backed by REZ under a Travnik agreement of 15 September 2026. Funded with 40,000 KM, halved between partners, until 15 December, workshops open the scheme; nine teachers and 30 students in Kiseljak, Travnik and Bugojno then build helpers for three subjects. A digital platform should later give every relevant teacher these classroom AI tools.
Santo Tomas puts Gemini for Education before 46,000 students
University of Santo Tomas — Gemini for Education now backs teaching, research and academic support for over 46,000 students across 22 academic units at the University of Santo Tomas, part of the Philippine institution's push on generative AI in higher education. More than 2,000 faculty gained training to use the tools within their own subjects, with 45 e-learning specialists and over 300 Google Certified Educators providing support, an example of AI in university teaching and learning at scale. Uses span nursing students rehearsing emergencies, architecture students visualising designs, and staff drafting rubrics, lesson plans and visual guides.
Casper College gives every student and lecturer BoodleBox AI access
Casper College — Casper College has become Wyoming's first college to give all students and faculty campuswide generative AI access, through the BoodleBox AI platform. The rollout began in August 2026 after a select staff group trialled BoodleBox over the summer. Digital Learning director David Siemens links the shared AI workspace to building AI literacy, responsible use and effective teaching integration.
University of Sydney will give all students and staff ChatGPT Edu
University of Sydney — The University of Sydney will give every student and staff member free, supported ChatGPT Edu from OpenAI, phasing generative AI in higher education into teaching, research and operations. The campus AI tool will sit beside Cogniti. A $1 million seed investment also starts the AI Sustainability Research and Innovation Fund.
BANGE puts its whole workforce through AI and fintech training
Banco Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial — Banco Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial has sent the entire payroll, every department included, through AI training for bank staff, delivered by BANGE Business School with Spanish education group CEF.-UDIMA. Jorge Lucio Sánchez Galán, who holds a doctorate in the subject, leads sessions covering banking applications, automated workflows, data work, fintech, cybersecurity, risk and responsible handling of digital tools. The lender expects this AI upskilling to surface efficiencies, lift output and quicken customer service across Equatorial Guinea.
Duluth Public Schools gives district staff Google Gemini
Duluth Public Schools — Duluth Public Schools has opened Google Gemini to district staff this school year, putting AI lesson planning in the hands of educators alongside unit development and assessment writing tied to state standards. The choice followed a review of national best practices, principals' association guidance and existing school board policies. Access runs through official district accounts, privacy training comes first, and pupils are locked out; only staff touch the AI planning tools.
Masaryk University puts a language model inside its student system
Masarykova univerzita — Masarykova univerzita has built AI in higher education administration straight into IS MU, the system its students and staff already use for coursework and teaching logistics, rolling out new capabilities through September 2026. Plain-language queries about study or administrative matters can now be typed directly from the IS MU homepage, answered by a large language model in university information systems that runs on the institution's own servers so personal data never leaves campus. The university calls itself the first in the Czech Republic to embed such a model directly into its academic records platform, and one of the earliest examples anywhere in Europe, with teaching staff expected to shed some routine workload as a result.
Greece's first university-certified AI public servants qualify this month
University of Patras (KEDIVIM) — Greece's first university-certified cohort in AI in public administration wraps coursework this month and next, having started 29 June. The University of Patras's lifelong-learning centre backs the qualification, from the nation's first distance-based degree in this field. KFUPM becomes first Saudi university to launch ChatGPT Edu

IU Internationale Hochschule adds AI agent functions to Syntea tutor
IU Internationale Hochschule — IU Internationale Hochschule, Germany's largest private university, has added AI agent functions in higher education to its learning assistant Syntea: the system now picks teaching methods on its own and nudges students about their goals instead of only answering questions. Trials began in early 2025 and reached online courses by the first quarter, letting Syntea suggest study approaches, map out personalised paths and fold in tasks such as scheduling courses. AI classroom pilots reach 160 secondary students across Cyprus
AI4EDU project (University of Cyprus and Cyprus Pedagogical Institute) — AI4EDU, a joint project of the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, put AI classroom tools for secondary education through four classroom trials, dividing 160 teenagers evenly between test and comparison groups of 80 apiece. Physics, Chemistry and English Literature lessons hosted the conversational assistants TeacherMate and Study Buddy, with the latter also backing homework completion and exam readiness beyond ordinary lesson hours, functioning as AI tutoring assistants in schools. The work ran January to May 2025.
Chulalongkorn opens ChulaGENIE AI platform to staff and students
Chulalongkorn University — Gemini 1.5 Flash and Pro reach the whole Chulalongkorn University community through ChulaGENIE, a generative AI platform for universities hosted on Google Cloud's Vertex AI, with Anthropic's Claude and Meta's Llama models slated to arrive later. Staff gained entry first, in January 2025, then students in March. Chulalongkorn pairs this with Google AI Essentials courses, building AI literacy in higher education campus-wide.
59% of the global workforce will need reskilling by 2030, WEF says

41% of VET policymakers use or see AI in curriculum development
41% of VET policymakers, 36% of industry representatives and 21% of VET providers used or knew of AI in developing VET curricula, qualifications or occupational standards, OECD surveys of 25 countries (April–November 2025) found. Only 15% said relevant guidelines existed.
Only about 20% of VET providers use AI in curriculum work
Across ten countries studied by the OECD, only about 20% of VET providers reported using AI in curriculum and qualification development. In the lowest-adopting country just 7 of 63 responding providers (13%) did.
England approves a Level 4 AI and automation apprenticeship
England has a Level 4 'AI and automation practitioner' apprenticeship standard (ST1512), approved for delivery on 10 December 2025, for non-specialist operational staff using AI and automation tools rather than AI engineers. It typically lasts 18 months, with a 420-hour minimum, up to £18,000 funding per apprentice and Ofqual providing external quality assurance.
Cedefop's pilot European Vocational Teacher Survey of 735 VET teachers in 23 EU Member States finds 29% using AI tools often or very often. Yet 31% say AI skills for teachers need major work in spotting relevant tools, and a similar share feel unready to judge AI's ethical risks and biases.
AI teaching assistant did not lift outcomes in Singapore VET study
A co-designed generative AI teaching assistant at a Singapore vocational institution improved teaching processes but produced no significant gain in student assessment outcomes, an evaluation found. High-ability students used it to verify work strategically, while low-ability students often used it to skip cognitive effort, potentially widening gaps.
AI content reaches just 0.3-5.5% of analysed training courses
Only 0.3% to 5.5% of analysed training courses in Australia, Germany, Singapore and the United States delivered AI content, OECD analysis published in April 2025 shows, drawing on its 2024 training-supply study and 2023 policy questionnaire. Course supply is not yet keeping pace with demand for AI skills.
Singapore's AI and digital-skills training nearly tripled to 96,000
Singapore's SkillsFuture AI skills training nearly tripled. Participants in AI, cybersecurity and digital marketing courses rose from 34,000 in 2023 to 96,000 in 2024.
India launches a multilingual AI skilling chatbot on WhatsApp
India's Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched the Skill India Assistant on 21 July 2025, a multilingual AI skilling chatbot on WhatsApp built on Meta's open-source Llama model. MSDE calls it the first large-scale open-source AI deployment in a national public skilling mission. By February 2026 its Skill India Digital Hub, run with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), counted 1.5 crore (about 15 million) candidates, 7,000 training providers and 68,000 employer and industry partners.
Advanced AI skills are held by only about 1% of workers
Advanced AI skills like machine learning and data science are sought after but scarce, held by about 1% of workers, the OECD reports. Meanwhile roughly a quarter of workers were already exposed to generative AI in 2022–2024.
Only 37% of UK Skills Bootcamp starters achieved a positive outcome
Of 42,340 people who started a Wave 3 (2022–23) course in the UK's Skills Bootcamps programme, only 15,570 achieved a positive outcome, 37% of starters. While 54% of surveyed participants were promised a guaranteed employer interview, just 24% reported one offered or scheduled.
Only 41% of India's PMKVY-certified trainees were placed in jobs
India's supreme audit institution found skilling scheme placements for just 2.318 million, or 41%, of the 5.614 million candidates certified under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana's short-term training. The ministry itself blamed the weak job placement on roles picked without skill-gap analysis or market-demand assessment.
EU adult learning still reaches the already-qualified most, data show
Adult learning participation in the EU-27 favours the already-qualified: in 2022 just 25.1% of low-qualified adults took part, against 41.5% at medium level and 65.7% with tertiary qualifications. Adults holding a medium-level vocational qualification took part less than general-education peers at that level, 40.7% against 44.1%.
Three in ten US teachers use AI weekly, saving 5.9 hours
Three in ten (30%) U.S. public K–12 teachers report using AI tools at least weekly. They estimate saving 5.9 hours a week, about six weeks a school year.
AI tutor lifts Nigerian students' learning in World Bank trial
A World Bank randomised trial in Edo State, Nigeria showed AI tutoring lifting learning by roughly 0.31 standard deviations, and 0.23 in English, across a six-week after-school scheme for about 800 senior-secondary students. Supervised by teachers, pupils used a generative-AI tutor, Microsoft Copilot powered by GPT-4; the World Bank likens the improvement to about two years of typical learning, and end-of-year exam scores rose too. A formal working paper records the trial.
