AISI Germany begins work as national AI safety institute

German Federal Government — Berlin now hosts a freshly launched AI safety institute: AISI Germany, folding BSI's cybersecurity expertise together with the Federal Network Agency's former remit over operational safety of AI systems, all under one national AI safety body. A June 2026 resolution from the National Security Council brought it into being, with joint command shared between the Federal Ministry of Digital and the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
