Austria starts rolling out GovGPT to federal civil servants

Austrian Federal Chancellery — Austria's Federal Chancellery has begun rolling out GovGPT, a sovereign AI assistant for civil servants, starting in the Chancellery and moving department by department. Staff draft texts, condense long documents and build searchable knowledge libraries, with queries and uploads processed on Federal Computing Centre infrastructure instead of a public chatbot. The Ministry of Finance followed from 21 July and the consumer protection, care, health, social affairs and labour ministry on 28 July, targeting 180,000-plus federal employees.

Austria to add AI summaries to federal electronic files

Austrian federal government (State Secretary for Digitalisation) — Austria's State Secretary for Digitalisation, Alexander Pröll, says the federal electronic file system (ELAK) will add AI in the second half of 2026, letting 13,000 staff query whole file collections and get structured AI document summaries instantly. It is among five Public AI initiative applications, alongside KI-SUN, a knowledge assistant already covering 6,000-plus pages of federal training material.

Tieto Austria and TQS Research & Consulting — Employers stay in the dark: research from Tieto Austria and TQS Research & Consulting puts covert workplace AI adoption at 17% of Austria's workforce, drawn from 795 employed people among 1,000 polled. Company-sanctioned tools alone satisfy only 23% of staff, whereas distrust of outputs and absent policy push 42% to skip AI use at work entirely.

Klagenfurt gives every student a data-safe AI assistant

University of Klagenfurt — The University of Klagenfurt is offering every student Academic AI, a free data-protection-compliant AI assistant for students, from the 2026/27 winter semester, for exam preparation, programming, drafting texts and structuring content. The university has no access to students' prompts or chats, and about 30 minutes of basic AI training on Moodle is required before first use.
