Swiss parliament gives members an in-house AI assistant

Zurich canton to roll out AI transcription and plain-language tools

Regierungsrat, Canton of Zurich — The Canton of Zurich's government says it will make two piloted tools permanent across its administration: TranscriboZH, for AI transcription of audio and video, and KlartextZH, a plain-language text simplifier. Decided on 9 July 2026 (Regierungsratsbeschluss Nr. 749/2026), the step belongs to SynerKI, a cross-departmental project that will also build a central AI service platform for handling protected data. The Regierungsrat approved 2.76 million francs one-off and 3.87 million francs a year in running costs.

Canton Ticino deploys Apertus-based AI translation for civil servants

Canton Ticino — Ticino's public administration has rolled out an AI translation for government staff tool built on Switzerland's open-source Apertus language model, with roughly 100 civil servants trialling it in the initial rollout phase. Artificialy, the Ticino-based firm behind the system, designed it to convert text across German, French, Italian, Romanian and Ukrainian while keeping sensitive data within Swiss borders, a multilingual public-sector translation approach that could inform wider cantonal adoption.

UBS makes AI skills a hiring bar for junior bankers

UBS — Starting in 2027, UBS will reject graduate and intern applicants who cannot demonstrate AI skills in investment banking. Swisscom tests AI that analyses customer conversations in stores

Swisscom — Swisscom is piloting an AI system named KIRA that analyses customer conversations in three Swiss retail branches, located in Bern, Aarau and Lausanne, as part of a broader push toward AI in retail customer service. Motion sensors monitor shopper movement while microphones capture sales discussions with customer consent, and anonymised transcripts are then reviewed through AI-driven retail analytics to surface what shoppers are actually seeking. The trial is scheduled to last two to three months, and if it proves effective, Swisscom intends to roll KIRA out to 10 to 15 branches by the end of the year.
