Slovak government approves law designating MIRRI as AI oversight body

Government of the Slovak Republic — Slovakia has approved a draft act placing state administration of artificial intelligence under the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatisation (MIRRI), naming it the single contact point and central market surveillance authority for AI systems. This Slovakia AI regulation splits sector-specific duties among the National Security Authority, the Data Protection Office and the Justice Ministry, and requires MIRRI to build a regulatory sandbox for developing and testing AI under the new AI oversight law. The law takes effect 1 January 2027.

Government Council for Digital Transformation and AI established

Government of the Slovak Republic — Slovakia has created the Rada vlády SR pre digitálnu transformáciu a umelú inteligenciu (Government Council for Digital Transformation and AI), on a MIRRI proposal. Slovakia appoints its first government plenipotentiary for AI

Vláda Slovenskej republiky — On 4 July 2025 Slovakia named Radoslav Štefánek as its first Government Plenipotentiary for Artificial Intelligence, steering Slovakia AI policy across ministries, regional bodies, companies and universities while representing the country in international AI forums. A cabinet resolution created the post, run as an advisory arm inside MIRRI, where Štefánek already holds the State Secretary title. This reflects a national AI coordination model rather than a standalone ministry.

Permanent Commission for Ethics and Regulation of AI

Bratislava hospital performs first AI-assisted brain surgery in Central Europe
