Plzeňský Prazdroj deploys AI-driven irrigation for Slovakia's last hop yard

Plzeňský Prazdroj Slovensko — Slovakia's last commercial hop yard, in Nemšová, is testing AI irrigation management for hop farming under Plzeňský Prazdroj Slovensko's PRE CHMEĽ project. Sensor stations record soil moisture, temperature, humidity and rainfall, feeding an app whose algorithm tells farmers when and how much to water. A prior Czech run of this smart irrigation approach produced a 40% output jump where staff followed its schedule.

Slovak government approves law designating MIRRI as AI oversight body

Government of the Slovak Republic — Slovakia has approved a draft act placing state administration of artificial intelligence under the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatisation (MIRRI), naming it the single contact point and central market surveillance authority for AI systems. This Slovakia AI regulation splits sector-specific duties among the National Security Authority, the Data Protection Office and the Justice Ministry, and requires MIRRI to build a regulatory sandbox for developing and testing AI under the new AI oversight law. The law takes effect 1 January 2027.

Bratislava hospital performs first AI-assisted brain surgery in Central Europe

Univerzitná nemocnica Bratislava (UNB) — Central Europe's first AI-assisted brain surgery took place at Univerzitná nemocnica Bratislava (UNB), where neurosurgeons used an AI model from the University Hospital Rio Hortega in Valladolid, Spain to scan intraoperative ultrasound in real time, flagging tumour remnants invisible to the eye. Post-operative MRI showed no residual tumour, and the patient was discharged. The case marks an early regional milestone for AI brain tumour surgery.

Metro Slovakia opens first hybrid autonomous store in Mlynky

Metro Slovakia — Metro Slovakia runs an autonomous store retail site in Mlynky, part of the Môj obchod partner network, staffed by day and switched to unattended AI-run operation once employees leave.
