Guernsey's AI Sprint passes 1,000 bookings in six days

The G8 industry bodies of Guernsey — Guernsey's G8 industry bodies drew over 1,000 sign-ups in six days for the island's first AI Sprint, a six-week AI skills training scheme running 1 October to 12 November. More than 50 free events, from talks to hackathons and clinics, welcome beginners and executives in regulated fields, offering artificial intelligence training island-wide.

Elizabeth College trials an AI tutor with its Year 10 pupils

Elizabeth College — Elizabeth College has run a month-long pilot of Inkling, an AI tutor built by UK independent school Clifton College, which recruited the Guernsey side to test and feed back. Instead of supplying solutions outright, this AI-guided study aid applies the Socratic method — probing, never telling — to build critical thinking, and logs where each pupil stands against exam objectives so help arrives tailored. Fran de Garis, English teacher and AI lead, put Year 10 through it for homework beyond class time, with cover lessons a further possibility. De Garis stops short of committing: adoption stays undecided, the hoped-for role an extra option rather than a crutch, and results go to Inkling's developers in September.

Guernsey's finance regulator backs AI and writes no new rules

Guernsey Financial Services Commission — The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has issued a Policy Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence that openly welcomes AI in financial services — machine learning, large language models, plus agentic and generative systems — as a way to run leaner and shed paperwork. Because the Bailiwick supervises by principle, such technology already fits the regime in force: nobody needs prior sign-off or even a conversation with the Commission, and an AI build is treated no differently from any other technical or strategic undertaking under the Finance Sector Code of Corporate Governance and the Minimum Criteria for Licensing. Nothing bespoke accompanies this AI adoption stance — no rulebook, no guidance, no accreditation or certification standard. Where a firm is unsure how to proceed, the pointer is towards the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO/IEC 42001 and the NCSC Guidelines.

Guernsey's data authority convenes a 61-regulator statement on AI imagery

Office of the Data Protection Authority — Guernsey's Office of the Data Protection Authority is among 61 regulators behind the Joint Statement on AI-Generated Imagery and the Protection of Privacy, which the ODPA convened as secretariat and co-chair of the Global Privacy Assembly's International Enforcement Cooperation Working Group. Guernsey AI regulation now bites on systems fabricating lifelike pictures and video of real people who never agreed, minors and vulnerable groups most at risk, and co-signatories want strong safeguards, candour about system capability, reachable takedown routes for damaging material, and added protection for children. Parallel AI image rules form a Crown Dependency Data Protection Advisory on generative AI image creation, co-issued with the Isle of Man Information Commissioner and Jersey's Office of the Information Commissioner, restating that indecent images of a child stay criminal, AI-made or not, compliance resting with whoever builds and uses them. Islanders are told to tighten social-media privacy settings, treat AI apps wanting photographs or personal data warily, grasp their entitlements, and discuss internet safety with children.

Channel Islands chief executives report thin returns from AI

PwC Channel Islands — PwC's Channel Islands CEO Survey 2026, 'Catalysing competitiveness in the age of AI', polled 45 chief executives across Guernsey and Jersey. Channel Islands AI adoption looks shallow: 58% doubt the firm can shift quickly enough to match technology, and merely 8% see revenue rise and costs fall together. On AI maturity, just 15% have sufficiently many of the seven foundations for success; 80% deem innovation indispensable, yet only 9% claim solid innovation footings.
