Romanian Senate registers draft law on responsible AI use
Romanian Parliament (Senate) — Romania's Senate has registered legislation setting rules for AI regulation in sensitive fields such as healthcare, justice, and public administration, framed around the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Courts would be barred from letting algorithms decide cases, doctors must sign off on any AI-generated diagnosis, and consent becomes mandatory before AI can build political profiles; manipulative deepfakes aimed at swaying public opinion are banned outright. Public bodies deploying such systems face transparency duties and periodic audits, while breaches touching fundamental rights risk fines reaching 100 million lei (20.1 million euros) plus two to five years' imprisonment.

National Strategy in the Field of Artificial Intelligence 2024-2027
Government of Romania — Romania AI policy for 2024-2027 rests on six priorities under the National Strategy in the Field of Artificial Intelligence (SN-IA): skills, infrastructure, research, technology transfer, wider societal uptake, and governance. Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization — Ministerial ordinance OMCID 20484/2023 (Monitorul Oficial 382, 4 May 2023) sets the structure and operation of the Romanian Committee for Artificial Intelligence (CRIA). Government Memorandum 20D/31781/MN of November 2022 created CRIA as a Romania AI policy body under the Prime Minister's patronage. CRIA steers state and business AI projects, drafts rules and builds national AI governance capacity in research, development, education and deployment; MCID runs its technical secretariat.

KIWI Finance — KIWI Finance has handed roughly 400 loan intermediaries agentic AI in lending, running FlowX.AI tools inside a sealed environment. eMAG starts using AI to produce TV and video advertisements
eMAG — AI video advertisements now come from eMAG, Romania's biggest online retailer, made with Veo, Kling, Runway and ElevenLabs. Written descriptions of characters, camera moves and scenes drive these generative systems, leaving eMAG's marketers in charge of concepts and direction. A spring 2025 fashion push, online-only, was the first result of this AI video advertising shift, after static graphics saw the same change in 2024.
Iași equips 140 buses with AI anticollision and driver monitoring
CTP Iași (Compania de Transport Public Iași) — Romania's Iași transit fleet now runs AI anticollision system public transport safety tech across 140 buses, installed by CTP Iași. Cameras spot nearby walkers, riders and cars sitting outside driver sightlines, triggering instant alerts by sound and screen. A linked driver monitoring technology buses module also checks for phone handling, drowsiness and belt use. Xceza SRL built the setup for 6.15 million lei (€1.24m), paid for via the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.
The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 4731 entries across 249 countries.
