Les Échos broke the story on 2 September; the Ministry of Public Accounts confirmed a non-exclusive deal won by tender, with Mistral AI engineers posted into departments. Cybersecurity, fraud hunting and clearing bulk caseloads at the Ministry of Justice lead this public-sector AI push.
France18 Jun 2026Direction générale de l'administration et de la fonction publique (DGAFP) — Talks on AI in the civil service began in France as the DGAFP met unions and employers across all three public-sector branches to negotiate a framework agreement on rolling out and using artificial intelligence in government work. The draft, tied to the 'Notre IA' plan, groups its provisions into six strands: guiding principles, ethics and transparency duties, oversight structures, dialogue with staff representatives, workforce training, and handling organisational change from AI deployment in public administration. Negotiators are due back at the table on 10 July 2026.
France16 Jun 2026French government (Notre IA plan) — The French government will bring generative AI for public advisers to its 8,000 France services staff by autumn 2026 with a tool built on Aria, a chatbot from the Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Dila). It is part of the Notre IA plan unveiled at Bercy, which also foresees a general conversational tool for some one million state employees, phase one costing an extra €750,000 in Mistral licences and computing power.

Céline Arquié of the Toulouse tribunal calls the technology marginal to day-to-day judging. Just three posts staff the Conseil d'État's AI unit, whose pilots, from missing-document alerts to anonymisation, never touch rulings.

Labels reading "Contenu généré par IA" become compulsory wherever AI substantially shapes campaign material, while faking a declared candidate's likeness without their signed approval becomes illegal from 1 November 2026. Major platforms face a 1 October 2026 deadline to launch tools letting users flag suspect material, feeding a registry that refreshes weekly once the official campaign period begins, giving the public a running record of AI electoral content flagged during the race.

Magistrates and court agents are already trialling an AI assistant built on sovereign hosted infrastructure, handling document analysis, drafting, summarising and translation. Rather than a one-off project, this establishes AI adoption in courts through a permanent internal structure.
France10 Nov 2025Gouvernement français (Conseil des ministres) — The CNIL would lead market surveillance of high-risk Annex III systems plus prohibited practices under article 24 of the DDADUE bill, which names around fifteen national competent authorities, charged with policing the EU AI Act, after going before the Council of Ministers. In this France AI regulation, Arcom oversees media and transparency obligations while the DGCCRF coordinates as single point of contact. The Senate approved an amended text on 17 February 2026; the National Assembly still has to examine the AI rulebook.

Emerging from a GDPR compliance for AI systems consultation open to the public, the guidance tackles cutting down data gathered, narrowing its purpose, fixing retention periods, safeguarding individual rights, and grounding web scraping in legitimate interest. CNIL flagged that industry-specific rules would arrive afterward, in the second half of 2025.

The poll went to all 79,844 registered advocates between 4 and 26 May 2026, gathering 4,740 replies.

Julie Couturier, the CNB's president, says newcomers should learn the software with judgement and respect for secrecy.

AXA Secure GPT, a generative AI assistant for employees, reaches all 154,000 staff across 79 business applications. SmartInAXA, a RAG-based tool, is rolling out to French distributors.

This AI product catalogue enrichment achieves a 78% accuracy benchmark, free of errors, for branded merchandise. Elsewhere, a trial identified and resolved 3,400 supplier mistakes spanning 108 suppliers.

Real-time alerts flag low stock to employees, and this image recognition technology in supermarkets can point customers straight to what they're after.
