Strix deploys machine learning tool to optimise production line set-ups

Strix Plc — Isle of Man-based kettle controls maker Strix Plc expects AI-Barbara, a machine learning tool at its Ramsey factory, to add 4.3 million components and save approximately £50,000 every year. Bringing AI in manufacturing to tooling, the system reads real-time production data to forecast the best settings, turning set-up times of up to four hours into right-first-time runs. Local consultancy Insight Innovation wrote the TensorFlow neural network, a manufacturing AI funded through the government's Activate AI programme.

First Isle of Man AI adoption survey finds 52% of managers use AI

Manx Telecom — 52% of managers on the Isle of Man now report using AI at work, according to Manx Telecom's first island-wide AI adoption survey, run by Island Global Research among 640 residents. Across all employed respondents the figure drops to 43%, with heaviest use in IT operations (50%), marketing and sales (46%), and R&D (42%). Two-thirds of users, 65%, say productivity has risen as a result, despite only 15% ever receiving training on the technology, an artificial intelligence uptake gap the study flags as a risk.
