Latvia's Supreme Court gives its judges an in-house AI search tool
Supreme Court of Latvia (Augstākā tiesa) — Supreme Court of Latvia senators and staff have searched case law with Judicata, an in-house AI legal search engine, since September. Queries never leave the court's own servers, because local models do the processing. Rather than answering questions or interpreting law, the semantic search pulls the closest passages from anonymised rulings, Constitutional Court decisions and translated European Court of Human Rights judgments.

Latvian court administration launches AI anonymisation tool
Tiesu administrācija (Court Administration) — Latvia's Tiesu administrācija (Court Administration) built an AI anonymisation tool for court rulings that swaps names for tags like 'Person A', sparing clerks a tedious chore. Machine learning now scrubs identifying details from 411,005 civil, criminal and administrative judgments, easing what was once hand-done redaction across the courts.

CSDD launches AI assistant for vehicle registration staff
Ceļu satiksmes drošības direkcija (CSDD) — Latvia's Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) now runs an AI virtual assistant for vehicle registration, built by Dots since 6 August 2025 to speed up customer service replies. Staff skip manual searches through more than 2,000 regulatory documents and data files: the tool reads HTML, PDF, Word and image files, applying OCR to scanned paperwork. This reflects a wider shift toward AI-driven public service tools.

Latvia adopts Artificial Intelligence Centre Law
Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) — A new legal basis for AI regulation in Latvia arrives via the Artificial Intelligence Centre Law, passed by the Saeima, which also stands up a national AI Centre due to open by 31 March 2025. Tasked with linking government, industry and universities, the body will foster AI skills, manage risk and may operate a sandbox for trialling AI systems under real conditions. Its founders — VARAM, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Defence — bring in private companies and academic institutions as partners.

Latvian government approves AI Act implementation plan
Ministru kabinets (Cabinet of Ministers) — Latvia AI regulation now hands lead authority to the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM) for the EU AI Act. Three bodies share market oversight — Consumer Rights Protection Centre, State Data Inspectorate and Bank of Latvia — while the Ombudsman covers fundamental rights. Cabinet approved this EU AI Act implementation plan.

VID pilots generative AI assistant Vidis for tax consultants

SEB banka — SEB banka, the Swedish SEB Group's Latvian subsidiary, runs an AI voicebot banking service that lets customers lock a card or halt internet banking access on their own, without a human consultant. Launched to cover urgent requests, the system answers calls between 8pm and 8am on weekdays and non-stop across weekends. This voice assistant for banking targets time-sensitive emergencies rather than routine enquiries.
LTAB launches AI virtual assistant for motor insurance queries
Latvijas Transportlīdzekļu apdrošinātāju birojs (LTAB) — Latvijas Transportlīdzekļu apdrošinātāju birojs (LTAB) deployed a virtual assistant bringing AI in motor insurance to Latvia's motorists, handling enquiries on compulsory motor third-party liability (OCTA) insurance. Linked to LTAB online services, the insurance chatbot explains 24/7 what follows crashes, policy validity and claims.
Regional hospital in Ventspils introduces AI for X-ray analysis
Ziemeļkurzemes reģionālā slimnīca — Northern Kurzeme Regional Hospital (Ziemeļkurzemes reģionālā slimnīca) in Ventspils has adopted AI X-ray analysis via Gleamer AI, an AI-based medical imaging tool, catching bone fractures and chest abnormalities. Doctors across radiology, anaesthesiology and trauma units consult the software every day as routine diagnostic support rather than an experimental trial.
Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital — Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital in Riga, Latvia, has run over 8,000 patient CT scans through Aidoc's clinical AI stroke detection tool. Using a secure mobile app, this AI stroke triage has automatically alerted the stroke team to more than 500 suspected positive cases.

Tele2 Latvija — Dzirkstele, an AI customer assistant, now handles shopper queries at Tele2 Latvija's online store, covering internet plans while drafting device descriptions unaided. Plans include an AI leader school network of 15 general and 5 vocational schools, new teaching materials and a revised national curriculum. Latvian grid operator pilots AI for infrastructure inspection
AS Augstsprieguma tīkls (AST) — Latvia's power grid operator AS Augstsprieguma tīkls (AST) is trialling AI infrastructure inspection to shrink manual review time by 30 to 50 per cent. Partnering with SIA Datacom under EU funding, AST trains a prototype to spot damage across thousands of drone-shot images of transmission infrastructure. This aerial grid-defect detection tool remains at pilot stage.
METROPOLE introduces digital vision tests and AI eye screening
METROPOLE optical salon chain — METROPOLE is Latvia's first optical salon chain offering AI eye screening and digital vision testing, now across 18 salons. The chain's AI-based eye disease detection rates risk of three common conditions early, while digital testing enables remote optometrist consultations. Upgrades have cost METROPOLE over €2 million since 2024.
Tele2 deploys Dzirkstele AI assistant in its e-shop
Tele2 Latvia — Tele2 Latvia has launched Dzirkstele, an AI shopping assistant on its e-shop, to guide customers choosing mobile and home internet plans and to draft product descriptions. Built for AI customer service in telecoms, it works across multiple languages, reading input for tone and intent to generate tailored answers instead of scripted replies. This conversational AI assistant favours context-aware responses.
