Belgium27 Feb 2026UZ Gent — Ghent University Hospital has appointed the first full-time AI manager at a Flemish hospital to run at least 30 hospital AI projects, live or planned. In live use, AI locates the clot on CT scans in suspected stroke, replaces one of the two doctors reading each breast-screening scan, and does pre-surgical tissue-structure marking in minutes rather than hours. A doctor always has the final say, and the hospital discloses whenever an AI tool was used.
