Brazil's bar sets terms for conduct deals with legal AI companies
Conselho Federal da OAB — The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) issued Resolution 16/26, setting criteria for conduct adjustment agreements (TACs) with firms that build or sell legal AI tools. Under this AI regulation, the Federal Council's board may negotiate deals to prevent or fix breaches of professional rules, including lawyer-only work, with lawyer oversight and human checks on automated features. Vendors may not claim to replace lawyers or carry OAB endorsement, and signing a TAC confers none.
India's Supreme Court flags AI-generated fake judgments in a filing

California makes lawyers verify AI output and disclose its use in court

DC appeals court strikes bank's brief over four AI-invented citations

Only a third of Dutch legal professionals get usable AI answers first time

Minnesota lawyer suspended for citing AI-invented cases
Minnesota Supreme Court — Minnesota attorney Faisal S. Ahmed accepted a 30-day suspension of his law licence after a 2025 brief he filed cited non-existent court cases produced by an AI tool. Several Minnesota matters involve AI-fabricated citations, including briefs with unverified invented authorities from attorneys David Lutz and Frederic Knaak. The suspension goes further than the fines and sanctions courts had imposed for such conduct.
Ministry of Justice — Japan's Ministry of Justice on 21 August 2026 set conditions for permitted AI in legal services under Article 72 of the Attorneys Act, easing the unauthorised-practice bar.
