SPAR South Africa — Employee adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot retail operations at SPAR South Africa has reached 67%, saving roughly 715 hours of labour. Nutun launches AI voice agent Zoey for debt collection
Nutun — More than R40 million in outstanding balances across over 80,000 accounts has already been cleared by Zoey, the automated voice system built by Nutun for AI debt collection. Unveiled alongside the firm's new AI Operations Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg, the locally developed assistant now handles repetitive recovery calls on its own. Staff have shifted into roles overseeing and reinforcing the technology, an AI voice agent for debt recovery, instead of losing their jobs to it.
Investec — Investec has given all 8,000 employees Microsoft Copilot across South African, UK and wider overseas businesses, calling it the country's first whole-workforce Copilot launch. More than 800 AI agents in banking now handle everyday analysis, drafting, reconciliation and admin work group-wide, saving over 350,000 staff hours annually by Investec's estimate. South Africa's standards body opens draft AI standards to comment
South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) — The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) wants comment by 10 November 2026 on draft South African AI standards covering transparency, data quality, human oversight and environmental impact. Committee SABS/TC 001/SC 42 would adopt ISO/IEC texts verbatim, including SANS 12792 and SANS 2620, drawn from ISO/IEC 5259. Though not legally binding, these voluntary benchmarks are likely to become the domestic yardstick for responsible AI.

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.
The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 4731 entries across 249 countries.
