Burundi validates its national AI strategy in Bujumbura

Ministry of Finance, Budget and Digital Economy / UNDP — Burundi's Ministry of Finance, Budget and Digital Economy, with the United Nations Development Programme, cleared the Stratégie nationale de l'intelligence artificielle, or SNIA, on 21 and 22 April 2026. Six pillars carry the Burundi AI policy: public leadership, data plumbing, schooling, invention, high-impact uses, ethics, inclusion. The national AI roadmap promises 1000-plus state employees trained, fifteen trial schemes in agriculture and health, incubators at Bujumbura, Ngozi and Gitega, and by 2030 a driver of fair growth and youth work.

Stratégie nationale sur l'intelligence artificielle 2025-2030

Ministry of Finance, Budget and Digital Economy — Burundi AI strategy has cleared final approval: the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Digital Economy, backed by the UNDP, signed off on the Stratégie nationale sur l'intelligence artificielle in Bujumbura. Running 2025-2030, six pillars underpin it — oversight via a new National AI Commission and ethics code, data systems, workforce skills (1,000-plus officials trained), entrepreneurship, farming and health trials, and sustainability. Government and priority sectors nationwide will follow this roadmap for AI adoption.
