Mauritius plans AI chatbot for its National Electronic Licensing System

FAIR Guidelines for the development and use of AI
Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation / AI Unit — Mauritius's Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation unveiled the FAIR Guidelines on 10 April 2026, pairing them with the National AI Strategy to shape Mauritius AI governance nationwide. Four pillars—Fairness, Accountability, Inclusiveness and Integrity, and Responsibility—anchor this voluntary code, steering responsible artificial intelligence adoption, design and deployment across industries. Regulators intend the code to harden into binding rules once the sector matures.

National AI Strategy: AI for Mauritius 2025-2029
Cabinet of Mauritius / Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation — Mauritius now follows a national AI strategy Mauritius will use through 2029: "AI for Mauritius", Cabinet's guiding artificial intelligence framework economy-wide. Priority sectors span health, finance, farming, industry and government services, overseen by a new Mauritius Artificial Intelligence Council. It is the country's first unified AI policy framework Mauritius has set nationally.

Mauritius launches AI for All booklet to improve citizen AI literacy
Government of Mauritius — Mauritius's Government unveiled AI for All on 29 October in Port Louis, driving AI literacy Mauritius-wide with UN backing through the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation. Mauritius budget allocates Rs 25 million for AI in public ministries
Government of Mauritius — Rs 25 million will equip Mauritius government departments with AI tools under the Public Sector AI Programme, run by a new AI Unit inside the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation. This AI in public ministries push sits within Budget 2025-2026, which also funds an AI Innovation Start-Up Programme and tax deductions up to Rs 150,000 for start-ups and MSMEs investing in artificial intelligence in government. The aim is sharper policymaking and service delivery nationwide.
SanlamAllianz Mauritius launches MIRA, an AI insurance assistant on WhatsApp
SanlamAllianz General Insurance Ltd — Customers of SanlamAllianz Mauritius can now message MIRA (My Insurance Robot Assistant) on WhatsApp for 24/7 help in English or French. Built as an AI insurance assistant, the bot fields common policy queries and steps in when staff are unavailable outside office hours, giving round-the-clock support via an AI conversational assistant for insurance queries. SanlamAllianz paired the debut with Zinsure, a fresh digital-first insurance product line, on 5 March 2026.
ITL deploys Amelia, the first AI receptionist in Mauritius financial services
Intercontinental Trust Limited — Mauritius's Intercontinental Trust Limited now runs Amelia, an AI receptionist for financial services, reportedly the first such tool at a local management company. This agentic AI system for client queries fields calls and recurring questions on offerings and vacancies, logging exchanges securely and freeing staff for higher-value work.
Guidance notes on responsible use of AI in financial services
Financial Services Commission, Mauritius — Mauritius's Financial Services Commission (FSC) binds regulated financial institutions to nine principles for AI in financial services. Fintech Series Guidance Notes No. 4 on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services lists fairness, bias mitigation, transparency, accountability, privacy, security, sustainability, human-centricity, monitoring and ethics, effective 19 September 2025. This marks a formal step toward AI governance in insurance and wealth management.
Financial Services (Robotic and AI Enabled Advisory Services) Rules 2021
Financial Services Commission, Mauritius — Mauritius now regulates AI financial advisory services through a licensing regime for robo-advisory services under the Financial Services (Robotic and Artificial Intelligence Enabled Advisory Services) Rules 2021, made by the Financial Services Commission under section 93 of the Financial Services Act. Licensees must hold minimum capital of MUR 600,000, build algorithm governance frameworks, and file independent evaluation reports on their systems every two years.

Mauritius Ministry of Education — Mauritius's Ministry of Education and Mauritius Telecom introduced mytGPT Education on 26 January 2026, a generative AI teaching assistant trialled with pupils in Grades 4, 7, 8 and 9. The classroom AI generates quizzes and lesson resources and shows teachers student performance, in English, French and phonetic Creole, following the national curriculum.
