Zanzibar launches an AI drone pilot against mosquito breeding sites

Zanzibar Ministry of Health (ZAMEP) — Zanzibar's Ministry of Health, through the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme, has launched AI drone mosquito control to find and treat breeding sites, with WHO, Japan's SORA Technology and the Ifakara Health Institute, funded by the Government of Japan. Drone surveillance reaches places conventional methods miss and lets health teams treat breeding sites on detection, officials say. Malaria prevalence on the islands is 0.04 percent.

UDOM pilots AI mental health platform at four Tanzanian hospitals

University of Dodoma (UDOM) — University of Dodoma (UDOM) built Akili Check, an AI mental health platform live at Muhimbili National Hospital, Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Mirembe Psychiatric Hospital and Amana Hospital in Tanzania. Over 200 patients have been diagnosed and referred to care through it. The AI-driven psychiatric screening tool combines self-assessments with treatment guidance.
