Gabon29 Sep 2026Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation (Gabon) — The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation opened drafting on Gabon AI policy at the Cité de la Démocratie in Libreville, steered by the United Nations Development Programme with the AILA method. For three days, officials, watchdogs, operators, academics, businesses and community groups weighed training, data, networks, oversight, cyber risk and rights. Private talks come next; no date to adopt the artificial intelligence plan has been published.

Sessions covered tools for quicker paperwork, Gabon's public-sector AI upskilling.
Gabon22 May 2026Gouvernement de la République Gabonaise / Conseil des Ministres — Gabon's Conseil des Ministres approved a decree creating the Direction Générale des Technologies Émergentes (DGTE), part of a wider Gabon AI regulation push under the Ministry of Economie Numérique. The DGTE will draft and oversee public policy on digitalisation, technological innovation, and responsible use of artificial intelligence across République Gabonaise, with central departments and decentralised offices in every province.
Gabon26 Feb 2026Government of Gabon — Gabon's Ordinance n°0011/PR/2026, dated 26 February 2026, introduces AI content labelling: synthetic text, images, video and deepfakes must bear an indelible mark showing they are artificial. Articles 32 to 34 and 53 also oblige platforms to run automatic detection systems, and outlaw explicit sexual deepfakes, wrongly crediting statements to public figures, and posing as state institutions. The rules rank among Africa's earliest binding measures on synthetic media marking.
Gabon11 Aug 2025Présidence de la République Gabonaise — Gabon's government has enacted Ordonnance n° 0006/PR/2025, signed by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and published in the Journal Officiel, setting a legal framework for public-sector digitalisation. A dedicated "Smart-Gouvernement" component requires administrative bodies to deploy artificial intelligence and emerging technologies so services become proactive rather than reactive, marking a formal push for AI in government administration and AI-driven public administration more broadly. The decree also lays down principles covering digital inclusion, interoperability, security and data sovereignty.

The body coordinates national efforts toward an ethical AI deployment strategy governing the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies.
Gabon12 Jul 2023Parlement de la République Gabonaise — The AI data protection law Gabon enacted defines artificial intelligence, along with raw data, AI input data and artificial neuron, making it the only statute in Francophone Afrique to spell out these terms. Loi n° 025/2023 revised the earlier Loi n° 001/2011 framework governing personal data processing. Article 77 bars courts and other bodies from basing a judicial ruling or any decision with legal effect solely on automated profiling of personality traits, while Article 43 grants individuals a right of access covering the reasoning behind such artificial intelligence regulation in personal data processing decisions.
Gabon2026-01Government of Gabon — Gabon added Forest Foresight, co-developed with WWF, to its national forest surveillance system, using AI deforestation prediction to flag at-risk areas up to six months ahead with 80% accuracy. This satellite-based deforestation forecasting has already assisted in stopping an illegal gold mine threatening 30 hectares of primary forest.
