Zimbabwe opens its first rural AI hub at a Gokwe North vocational centre
Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training (Zimbabwe) — Zimbabwe's government has opened the country's first rural AI hub, an AI, digital and innovation centre at Nyamuroro Vocational Training Centre in Gokwe North, Midlands province, with the United Nations Development Programme and Uncommon.org. 52 young people are enrolled, the Ministry of Information Communication Technology has supplied 20 laptops, and trainees get AI, coding and innovation tuition plus a path into the 1.5 Million Coders Programme. Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Kudakwashe Mupanhanga cast the rural AI training centre as digital transformation for countryside youth; cost and further hubs are undisclosed.

Harare's AI traffic cameras log two million violations
Government of Zimbabwe — Harare's Smart Traffic and Crime Management System, 24-hour AI traffic cameras at major intersections, has logged over two million violations, the government says, with ticketing to start after two weeks' warning. The camera network catches speeding, ignoring road signs, phone use at the wheel and unbelted travel. Telecoms parastatal TelOne delivered the project under the Mutapa Investment Fund.

Establishment of National AI Council and AI Strategy Implementation Office
Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services — Zimbabwe now has two new bodies overseeing its Zimbabwe AI policy: the National AI Council and the AI Strategy Implementation Office, both created by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services. Zimbabwe announces AI Cyber Shield to fight AI-powered fraud
Government of Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe will launch AI fraud detection financial services through the Zimbabwe AI Cyber Shield, a national programme under the country's National AI Strategy. Zimbabwe mandates AI training for 10,000 civil servants yearly

Zimbabwe approves National AI Strategy 2026–2030
Government of Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe's Cabinet has backed a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy running 2026 to 2030, part of its Zimbabwe AI policy push to move the economy away from resource dependence and toward knowledge-driven growth. Six pillars anchor this AI roadmap: growing homegrown AI skills, building computing infrastructure, spreading AI use through government and business, and an ethics framework drawing on UNESCO recommendations. A new National AI Council will steer direction, while an AI Strategy Implementation Office handles coordination on the ground.
Zyterra deploys VerdantIQ AI platform for smallholder farmers
Zyterra — Zyterra, a Zimbabwean agritech firm, built VerdantIQ, an AI farming platform pairing satellite crop data with weather forecasts and agronomic tips for smallholder farmers, aiming to sharpen everyday planting and harvest choices. WhatsApp and web access bring Mudhumeni Hungwe, a multilingual digital agronomist, straight to growers, widening reach for AI-driven agriculture support beyond costly apps. The firm aims to sign up 10,000 farmers free within 18 months.
Econet launches EcoFarmer AI platform for Zimbabwean farmers
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe — An AI platform for farmers named EcoFarmer AI has gone live in Zimbabwe, built by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe as an artificial intelligence-powered agriculture platform to sharpen decision-making. It uses exact field coordinates to model conditions up to 100 days out, then suggests planting, watering and input timing from soil readings and local forecasts. The launch sits under Econet AI, the firm's AI arm set up April 2026.
Ariston deploys AI-powered sorting for macadamia nuts
Ariston Private Limited — Ariston Private Limited runs AI-powered sorting for macadamia nuts at its Chipinge estates. A camera photographs every kernel to spot flaws and rank quality, an AI-powered nut scanning method sorting produce by grade for buyers abroad.

Zimbabwe health minister rules out AI in public hospitals
Ministry of Health and Child Care — The Ministry of Health and Child Care will neither bring AI into public hospitals nor fully digitise their records, Deputy Minister Sleiman Timios Kwidini told parliament, fearing hackers could expose patient data. Answering Mbizo MP Corban Madzivanyika, Kwidini called AI "a very essential tool" in development, yet said Zimbabwe AI policy excludes hospitals. This health AI policy covers state-run facilities.
TSCZ launches AI vehicle monitoring system on Zimbabwe's highways
Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe — The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has begun AI vehicle monitoring that captures registration marks instantly, matching each against several record sets and flagging offending cars. A high-definition lens feeds AI software able to fine motorists immediately for unpaid licensing fees. Trialled during April 2026, the plate-scanning road surveillance featured at Mucheke River Bridge's Masvingo opening.
