Representatives came from bodies including the High Authority for Peacebuilding, the Ministry of Interior and the National Institute of Statistics, gaining hands-on practice in artificial intelligence in emergency response through exercises in analysing datasets, compiling written reports and managing rapid-onset incidents. Branded ILLIMI Niger, the scheme sits within a broader push to build technical capacity inside government agencies.
Niger12 Jun 2026Government of Niger — President Abdourahamane Tiani's Décret n° 2026-310/PRN/PM abolishes nine public bodies, among them the Haute Autorité de Protection des Données à caractère Personnel (HAPDP). HAPDP enforced Niger AI regulation, namely Loi 2022-59's automated-decision and AI rules. Its data protection duties pass to the Ministries of Justice and Interior.
Niger16 Dec 2022Parliament of Niger (Assemblée Nationale) — Niger's Loi n° 2022-59, Article 52, sets AI regulation Niger relies on for automated decisions: judicial rulings cannot rest on automated processing assessing personality traits, and administrative or private-sector decisions cannot rest solely on automated profiling. Where a system qualifies as artificial intelligence, its criteria and personal data used must be disclosed at collection. President Mohamed Bazoum promulgated the statute, alongside Burkina Faso's as Africa's only explicit AI clause in data-protection law.
