Rwanda launches a national satellite-data programme with Planet Labs

Government of Rwanda — The Government of Rwanda has started a nationwide satellite-data programme with Planet Labs through the Rwanda Space Agency, billed as Planet's first in Africa, serving agencies, public universities and selected startups. The near-daily imagery and data will aid disaster preparedness, urban planning, forest-health tracking and agriculture and food-security monitoring.

Rwanda's London mission launches Nshuti, an AI consular chatbot

High Commission of Rwanda in the United Kingdom — Rwanda's High Commission in the United Kingdom has launched Nshuti, an AI consular chatbot on WhatsApp and the mission's website giving the diaspora and others seeking services instant consular answers. The in-house assistant guides users on appointments, passport applications and renewals, document registration and certification, and national ID enquiries.

Rwanda's farm advice line gets a Kinyarwanda AI assistant

Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources — Rwanda's Ministry of Agriculture is trialling Tunga, an AI farm advisory voice assistant on the ministry's call centre taking farmers' questions in Kinyarwanda. It draws on a ministry, Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board and partner knowledge base, handing unresolved queries to a human expert. ICT and Innovation Minister Paula Ingabire says Tunga got 60% of test-phase questions right.
