Togo's digital observatory adds an AI assistant for its statistics
Ministry of Digital Economy and Digital Transformation (Observatoire national du numérique) — The Observatoire national du numérique platform now offers a public AI assistant from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Digital Transformation. Ask about internet penetration or mobile usage in plain words and the conversational tool returns the indicator. Researchers, firms, policymakers and citizens are invited to test the service.

Togo launches a national drive to collect Ewe, Kabiyè and Moba data for AI
Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation (Togo) — Togo's Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation has opened a platform where citizens record speech, transcribe clips and translate passages to feed artificial intelligence models for national languages, a government AI programme Minister Cina Lawson launched in Lomé in early October 2026 as the National Local Language Challenge, opening the three-year Voix du Togo scheme. A one-month pilot covers Ewe, Kabiyè and Moba, targeting per language 50 hours of validated audio, 6,000 translated sentence pairs and 500-plus speakers. Public services, health and justice in a person's own tongue are the goal; partner Togo AI Lab ran public tests of the local-language AI platform in Lomé in September 2026.

Togo opens public testing of an AI that speaks Kabiyè, Ewe and Moba
Togo AI Lab (Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation) — Togo AI Lab invited testers in Lomé to try Voix du Togo, a local-language AI platform for reaching public services, starting with Kabiyè, Ewe and Moba speakers. The mother-tongue AI may later stretch to roughly 50 national languages. The Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation backs the work under its National Challenge for Local Languages, alongside Zindi, Umbaji and UC Berkeley's CEGA; no launch date exists yet.

Togo AI Lab trains 60 civil servants in data science and machine learning
Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation (Togo AI Lab) — Togo AI Lab is training 260 people, including 60 public administration staff, through a six-week data science certification with Simplon from 13-14 April 2026. This machine learning training for civil servants covers Python and data processing. The Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation organised this public-sector upskilling with GIZ.

Togo puts AI fraud detection behind its product-marking controls
Togo Ministry of Economy and Strategic Oversight — Togo's economy minister Badanam Patoki unveiled the Digital Market Intelligence platform in Lomé on 12 March 2026, bringing AI fraud detection and data analysis to automated product-marking enforcement. SICPA's Togolese subsidiary built the tool, which flags potentially counterfeit consumer goods so Office Togolais des Recettes agents and Ministry of Commerce inspectors can aim inspections and market surveillance.

UNDP trains 60 Togolese civil servants in AI
Government of Togo — Roughly 60 civil servants in Togo gained hands-on exposure to ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Claude through UNDP's four-day AI training for civil servants. The curriculum spanned drafting official documents, data analysis and strategic planning, plus algorithmic bias and data protection — themes central to generative AI in public administration.

National artificial intelligence strategy under development
Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Government of Togo — Togo AI policy is advancing through a Ministry of Justice and Human Rights blueprint steering public deployment of artificial intelligence. Delegates from ministries, agencies and civil society met at a Lomé event, "Artificial Intelligence and Democratic Governance," debating fair algorithms, sound data, citizens' rights and rules for homegrown research.
UN Development Programme — A UN Development Programme pilot, backed by the Japanese government, blends satellite observation, field data and AI crop risk monitoring in Togo's Savanes region to catch crop threats before damage shows. Solafune, a Japanese satellite and geospatial data specialist, runs it over a 1,000 km2 pilot zone in the Cinkasse and Tone prefectures. In Lome, a Solafune team showed Togolese stakeholders early results and a test build of the satellite early-warning platform.
AI policy for technical and vocational education launched
Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Apprenticeship — Togo has begun shaping an AI in technical and vocational education strategy, steered by METFPA alongside the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), launched in Lomé. A stakeholder panel is drafting the roadmap through consultation, weaving artificial intelligence into vocational training, with a completed version due early 2026.
