Mozambique trains 26 trainers in AI for electoral administration

INTIC and Comissão Nacional de Eleições (Mozambique) — INTIC and Mozambique's National Elections Commission opened a Training of Trainers in Artificial Intelligence in Electoral Administration at Macaneta, Maputo province, on 19 October 2026 with the United Nations Development Programme, a government AI training running to 23 October. Its 26 institutional trainers learn to use, assess and oversee AI tools, via modules from ethics and AI governance to data protection and doctored content. INTIC's Constantino Sotomane expects election AI skills to aid planning and civic education, warning of false information and personal-data abuse.

Mozambique will use AI to manage state treasury, debt and assets by 2030

Government of Mozambique (Ministry of Economy and Finance) — Mozambique's government will apply AI in public finance under its new Public Finance Management Strategy 2026-2035. Its Digital Transformation Plan for Public Finances 2026-2030 earmarks AI, machine learning, data mining and the Internet of Things for treasury, public debt and state assets, and a public-finance AI chatbot. It also targets cost-benefit tests on 80% of public investment projects and audited accounts at 100% of state-owned companies, up from 20%, by 2035.

Proposal for the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy of Mozambique

Instituto Nacional de Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (INTIC) — INTIC opened public consultation on version one of the Proposal for the National AI Strategy, a Mozambique AI policy draft linking AI to digital transformation. Priority pillars span health and science, innovation and infrastructure, governance and public services, education and skills, entrepreneurship and economy, climate and agriculture, energy and environmental impact and culture and tourism. Comments closed 4 September 2026; the national AI strategy awaits adoption.

Mozambique publishes first draft of National AI Strategy for public consultation

Government of Mozambique (INTIC) — A draft Mozambique AI policy has been thrown open for public comment by INTIC, Mozambique's National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies. Universities, firms, government bodies and ordinary citizens can respond to the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, pitched as a means to lift innovation, productivity and the quality of public services.

Mozambique government to create National Artificial Intelligence Commission

Government of Mozambique — Mozambique's government is forming a National Artificial Intelligence Commission (CNIA) to handle AI regulation Mozambique-wide and to push adoption across public services. Salim Valá unveiled the commission at Maputo's 12th MOZTECH technology fair, calling it a cross-sector AI governance platform. Decree No. 14/2026 gave it formal standing in April 2026.

Eduardo Mondlane University approves a directive on AI use

Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) — Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) has adopted a university AI policy, the Directive for the Use of Artificial Intelligence, setting norms for accountable use across teaching, research and management. Leaders disclosed the decision at a 30 September–1 October workshop in Mozambique that began mapping an institution-wide rollout. Officials call this campus AI governance move a start, with duties, procedures and means yet undefined.

Mozambique drafts rules for AI use from primary school to university

Ministry of Education and Culture (Mozambique) — The Ministry of Education and Culture plans to put Mozambique AI regulation for classrooms and campuses before the Council of Ministers by year end, Minister Samaria Tovela told the 4th National Conference on Distance Education in Maputo. Drafting is far along. The artificial intelligence rules will apply nationwide, from primary to higher education, with generative tools a chief concern.

Banco de Moçambique — Mozambique AI regulation gains a formal footing at Banco de Moçambique, which has adopted its own Artificial Intelligence Policy for safe, transparent, responsible internal use. Cornelder de Moçambique — Cornelder de Moçambique, which runs the Port of Beira, has deployed Terminal Flow, a home-grown AI container tracking tool for boxed cargo. The cargo-location system shows long-reach forklift operators exactly where each box sits and where its load is bound, says managing director Jan de Vries.
