Ghana runs every import declaration through an AI valuation system

Ghana Revenue AuthorityThe Ghana Revenue Authority says customs takings rose from GH¢2.4 billion to GH¢3.6 billion within weeks of Publican AI going live at Tema Port. This AI customs valuation system checks declared import prices against global trade databases with machine-learning models and routes suspicious entries to a customs officer before clearance. Bank of GhanaThe Bank of Ghana is applying AI, big data and machine learning to quicker economic intelligence, AI inflation forecasting, growth projections and earlier financial-risk spotting. First Deputy Governor Dr Zakari Mumuni outlined it at the Ghana Statistical Association's 4th Annual Statistics and Data Science Conference in Tamale. Fuzzy definitions, mismatched categories or badly checked data, he cautioned, can mislead even the most advanced forecasting models.

Method and sources

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.

The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 1114 entries across 249 countries.
