Iran opens a licensing window for AI service providers
Communications Regulatory Authority (Iran) — Iran's Communications Regulatory Authority now grants artificial intelligence permits through one electronic counter at cra.gov.ir, the most concrete piece of Iran AI regulation yet. Firms lodge a request, then track it to preliminary approval and issue. Under the artificial intelligence licensing regime a holder may stand up compute and hosting, then market text, vision, speech and model-building products.

Iran's AI law sorts systems into four risk tiers
Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), Iran — Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has sent the National AI Development Law to the government, and Iran AI regulation now bands systems as low, limited, high or very high risk. Which of the four bands a system lands in turns on transparency, privacy, employment and public health. A National AI Organisation answering straight to the president will carry the AI risk rules, and a security assessment centre must publish results every six months.

Law on National AI Development
Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran and the Guardian Council — Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly voted through amendments to the National AI Development Plan at a session on 28 Mordad 1405. This Iran AI policy, formally the National AI Development Plan, then went to the Guardian Council, which examined the amended text on 4 Shahrivar 1405 and declared it consistent with Islamic law and the Constitution, clearing its last legal hurdle.

Iran's judiciary pilots an AI case system that answers judges' legal questions
Judiciary of Iran, Statistics and Information Technology Centre — Iran's judiciary unveiled 'Smart SAMP', an AI case management system first piloted in three provinces, South Khorasan, Qom and Lorestan, from Dey 1404 (late December 2025 to January 2026). Judges each get an assistant that answers legal queries using legal sources and harmonises precedents and advisory opinions, while smart tools handle case referral and expert-review assignment, says the judiciary's statistics and IT centre head.

Iran deploys AI assistant for the President and cabinet
Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy — Officials have moved Iran's AI assistant for government decision-making, dubbed the 'AI for the President' project, into active rollout, Hossein Afshin said. Executive-agency data now streams into smart dashboards, arming the cabinet with immediate recommendations on pricing, tariffs and broader economic strategy. An AI-based cabinet decision support system is expected to yield its first tangible output before the Iranian year closes.

Iran's parliament approves National AI Plan with 187 votes

Government Document on the Development and Application of AI Technology
Council of Ministers of Iran — Topping the charts for artificial intelligence capability throughout South-West Asia, while breaking into the worldwide top ten, sits at the heart of Iran's newly cleared Government Document on the Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology — approved by the Council of Ministers on 24 Ordibehesht 1404 (14 May 2025) as the backbone of Iran AI policy. Governance now shifts to a purpose-built coordination body under this AI development and application framework, tasked with folding AI into strategic technologies, tightening data quality and safeguards, scaling up computing resources, lifting technical know-how nationwide, championing knowledge-based ventures, and fostering trustworthy AI adoption. Separate rules address who may reach public datasets, how AI marketplaces function, sandbox testing regimes built for AI, and the credentials demanded of contractors.

Administrative and Recruitment Organisation of Iran — Every executive body bound by Iran's Civil Service Management Law must now deliver AI training for government employees, under Circular No 116958 (14/12/1403) from the Administrative and Recruitment Organisation. Coverage includes basic concepts, practical tools, governance issues and long-term strategy, building AI literacy among staff and showing where it fits into daily paperwork. Compliance updates are compulsory, with room for extra specialised sessions if gaps remain.

Statute of the National Artificial Intelligence Organisation
Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of Iran — Under Iran AI regulation, the Statute of the National Artificial Intelligence Organisation (NAIO) took effect on 10 July 2024, following a decree from the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and the naming of its first Executive Director. Answering directly to the President of Iran rather than any ministry, this new national AI governance body pulls licensing, compute planning, technical standard-setting and sandbox oversight under one roof, while also driving forward a homegrown Persian large language model. National Artificial Intelligence Document of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Files uploaded to the system get checked in under two minutes, then pass straight through to payout. The insurer bills it as the industry's first AI-powered claims handling tool, aimed at cutting errors and quickening settlements.
Bank Mellat launches Dima AI-powered digital banking app with voice assistant
Bank Mellat — Bank Mellat's Dima app gives customers an AI banking assistant that carries out requests spoken or typed. On Android and the web, Dima also lets customers open accounts remotely, move money, request cards and use video banking. Bank Mellat claims Dima is Iran's first banking app whose voice-driven AI assistant adapts to users' age, gender and preferences.

This AI-powered shopping assistant remains a pilot, limited to property, vehicles, digital goods and certain appliances.
Divar adds AI sales assistant that handles bargaining for sellers
Divar — Iran's classifieds platform Divar now lets دستیار فروش, its AI sales assistant, field buyer calls and haggle over prices on sellers' behalf. Within limits sellers define upfront, the tool chats or talks around the clock and fixes viewing appointments without human input. Each national ID unlocks one free run; further use costs ۴۹ هزار تومان on ordinary listings and ۶۹ هزار تومان on job ads under this automated bargaining tool.

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.
The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 4731 entries across 249 countries.
