Communications and Media Commission (CMC) — A 30-day feedback period has opened on Iraq's first AI regulation Iraq draft, a regulatory framework for AI services from the Communications and Media Commission. Rooted in Legislative Order No. 65 of 2004, it targets oversight of AI development and deployment, tighter privacy, sharper openness, digital sovereignty, and industry investment.

Iraq's security service opens a public tool for spotting AI fakes
Iraqi National Security Service — Iraq's National Security Service has detailed 'Mayyiz', a cybersecurity-directorate platform for AI deepfake awareness that quizzes users on telling genuine images, video and audio from fakes and explains online fraud and disinformation methods. Billed by the service as the country's first specialised platform on AI and deepfake risks, the fake-spotting test is in preliminary trials via the government's 'Aman' platform, which hosts its data.

CMC and Zain Iraq launch six-month AI training for senior staff
Communications and Media Commission (CMC) — Iraq's Communications and Media Commission has launched AI training for government staff with Zain Iraq, the Irada Foundation and Kapita Research, running six months. Officials will study strategy, governance rules, tools and analytics, forming an AI governance skills programme inside the regulator. Baleegh Abu Kalal called it a first step.

Iraq's planning ministry puts AI to work on census data
Iraqi Ministry of Planning — Iraq's Ministry of Planning has used AI census analysis to turn the huge dataset from the 2024 population census into indicators for development plans and investment priorities. Spokesman Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi adds that automated contractor naming and classification now runs within Central Organisation for Standardisation and Quality Control services.

Iraqi National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2024–2030
Cabinet of Iraq / Prime Minister's Office — Iraq AI policy now centres on a cabinet-backed roadmap covering 2024 to 2030, revealed at the Baghdad Tech Forum with USD 250 million earmarked over four years. The Iraqi Artificial Intelligence Group, under the Prime Minister's Office, drafted it around oil, public banking, healthcare, agriculture and Arabic-language government services. By 2028, 60% of government AI processing must run on servers inside Iraq.

Iraq's Interior Ministry issues AI use controls and ethics rules
Ministry of Interior (Iraq) — Iraq's Ministry of Interior has issued 'Controls and Ethics of AI Use in the Ministry of Interior – 2026', AI ethics rules drafted by the ministry's cybersecurity directorate on ministerial orders. These AI use controls rest on national AI ethics from a specialist government team and international data-protection and human-rights standards, to strengthen digital security.

UNESCO concludes AI training for Iraqi future judges and prosecutors
Iraqi Judicial Institute — Iraq's Judicial Institute now treats artificial intelligence as a fixture of judge and prosecutor training, after UNESCO closed a five-month AI judicial training course. Brussels funded the work via the Social Media for Peace scheme. This AI literacy requirement for judicial education is now standard, not a single workshop.

Erbil launches first legal AI model for Kurdistan and Iraq
Erbil Governorate — Erbil Governorate flipped the switch on Project Judy on 12 February 2026, hailed as the first AI legal research system anywhere in Iraq or the Kurdistan Region. The launch at the Kurdistan Bar Association drew the Governor and the Minister of Justice, with courts, lawyers and public agencies expected to lean on the new tool for case analysis, evidence discovery and file handling. Organisers say the AI-driven legal assistant should thin out backlogs and take weight off judges.

Iraq deploys 3000 AI-powered surveillance cameras in Baghdad
Iraqi Interior Ministry (Response and Control Directorate) — Iraq's Interior Ministry has switched on AI surveillance across Baghdad, installing 3,000 smart cameras under its Safe City project's opening stage. Built-in software flags crime, fires, road collisions and fugitives, routing alerts to the 911 emergency response centre without any public phone call. Rollout so far covers only Rusafa, though the Response and Control Directorate plans to widen the AI-powered monitoring network into Babylon, Karbala, Najaf, plus airports and borders.
Iraqi bank association launches app with AI financial chatbot
Iraqi Private Banks Association — Masrifuna, from the Iraqi Private Banks Association, now houses an AI financial chatbot to sharpen users' money habits and ease access to banking details. Ali Tariq named it an AI-powered virtual advisor, drawing on figures supplied by member banks and Germany's GIZ, with the Central Bank of Iraq and the European Union backing its rollout.

Iraqi judiciary says AI misuse can be prosecuted as fraud under existing law
Iraqi Judiciary (Karkh Misdemeanor Court) — Iraq's judiciary now treats AI misuse fraud as an existing crime rather than a legal gap, despite no Iraqi statute naming artificial intelligence outright. Baghdad's Karkh Misdemeanor Court says schemes built on AI, whether forgery, defamation or blackmail, still trigger standard penalties under current law. Meanwhile the Rusafa Court of Appeal's Deputy Chief Judge pointed to a live prosecution under Article 456, evidence that judges are already folding AI-related crimes into the Penal Code rather than waiting on new rules.

Iraq's Midland Oil Company uses AI to monitor oil wells
Midland Oil Company — Midland Oil Company, Iraq's state-run operator, has rolled out AI oil well monitoring at East Baghdad, a national energy-sector first. With Chinese firm EBS, staff run the DeepSeek-R1 system for round-the-clock surveillance, cutting detection delays to minutes versus manual checks. This AI-based well surveillance beams alerts to smartphones for instant visibility.

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.
The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 4731 entries across 249 countries.
