Algeria says it will run tax collection on AI

National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025-2030 adopted
Council of Ministers of Algeria — Algeria's Council of Ministers, under Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, has approved a national AI strategy for 2025-2030 spanning six pillars: research, skills, infrastructure spending, ecosystem growth, oversight rules, and priority fields such as health, energy and farming, plus sovereign AI models. This Algeria AI strategy, an artificial intelligence roadmap for Algeria, draws on 74 master's programmes at 52 universities training 57,000 computer science students.

Algeria launches national AI training programme for 500,000 ICT specialists
Ministry of Vocational Training and Education / Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises — Algeria's Ministry of Vocational Training and Education and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises have started an AI training programme for ICT specialists at the El Rahmania National Specialized Vocational Training Institute in Algiers, targeting 500,000 workers by 2030 under this artificial intelligence skills scheme for technology workers. Instruction runs eight weeks, then four weeks building startup projects, across a 12-week course; instructor coaching began 15 January 2026. The effort ties to a wider digital strategy targeting artificial intelligence for 7% of GDP by 2027.

First AI legislative proposal submitted to parliament
National People's Assembly deputies of Algeria — Algeria AI regulation has reached parliament: APN deputies filed the country's first AI legislative proposal, awaiting Bureau review. Algeria amends data protection law changing AI automated-decision rules
Government of Algeria — Algeria's Law No. 25-11 narrows the automated-decision rule in the country's data protection framework, Loi 18-07, under Algeria AI regulation: the blanket ban on decisions made solely by automated processing now covers only criminal-justice bodies. It adds a formal definition of 'profilage' and requires a Data Protection Officer, tightening algorithmic decision-making oversight in criminal justice while easing it elsewhere.

Scientific Council for Artificial Intelligence established by joint ministerial action
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises — Under Algeria AI policy, Minister Kamel Baddari's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research joined Minister Yacine El-Mahdi Walid's Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises to launch the Scientific Council for Artificial Intelligence (Conseil scientifique de l'intelligence artificielle), also known as the National AI Council. Professor Merouane Debbah leads 28 specialists from universities, business and public bodies. Tasks ahead: shape a national AI development strategy, gauge resources, refresh curricula, build partnerships.
