Yemen cell used Claude to write missile guidance software

AnthropicAnthropic blocked accounts behind AI weapons development in Houthi-held Yemen, where a cell drove Claude Code for guidance, navigation and control programming across three arms efforts. From December 2025 to August 2026 on Claude Haiku, Sonnet and Opus, the missile guidance push targeted a guided rocket, a ballistic multistage missile reaching beyond 2,000km, plus proposed hypersonic glide vehicle concepts. A rocket trial misfired; no functioning weapon emerged, though the cell's offline simulation kit survived.

Yemen's trade ministry approves an AI service on WhatsApp

Ministry of Industry and TradeYemen's Ministry of Industry and Trade has cleared a smart programme running on artificial intelligence and reaching the public through WhatsApp, a decision taken at a meeting in Aden chaired by Minister Mohammed Al-Ashwal. Citizens will reach the department's offerings — AI government services delivered by messaging app — and the smart public-service programme will feed the RASAD platform, where complaints about trading breaches are lodged and chased, shortening handling times.

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.

The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 1114 entries across 249 countries.
