Tunisian customs adds AI module to flag high-risk declarations

General Directorate of Customs (Tunisia) — Tunisia's General Directorate of Customs added an AI module for AI customs risk targeting to the national customs selectivity system that picks declarations for control, it said on 16 May. Its machine-learning algorithms sift customs big data, automatically flagging high-fraud-risk operations to sharpen checks and speed compliant traders' goods.

Sousse installs facial recognition cameras in its historic medina

Municipalité de Sousse — Sousse's municipality has installed four facial recognition surveillance cameras at Bab Jebli and near the Ribat in the city's historic medina, tracking pedestrian and vehicle flow with footage sent straight to the municipal police operations room. The move brings AI-powered monitoring technology to a Tunisian old town where narrow streets and dense tourist traffic have long challenged conventional policing.

Tunisia says AI chest X-ray tool will go to 300 clinics

Ministry of Health (Tunisia) — Tunisia's health ministry will put an AI chest X-ray reading model, built by Ariana and Monastir university hospital teams with local technology partners, into more than 300 primary health centres, notably inland, minister Mustapha Ferjani says. Trained on regional conditions such as tuberculosis, the lung-screening AI is meant to help doctors spot lung anomalies and tumours early, with clinicians keeping the medical decision.
