La Calera firefighters switch on AI smoke detection

Santiago appeals court ruling goes out with a stray AI prompt
Corte de Apelaciones de Santiago — Corte de Apelaciones de Santiago released a Ninth Chamber decision on 6 October carrying a pasted AI drafting prompt, a template for an amparo judgment unrelated to the civil appeal. Substitute rapporteur Felipe Larraín uploaded the working file in error; presiding judge Jenny Book had the text corrected, said the chamber never used the prompt and gave Larraín 24 hours to report. Guidelines for using artificial intelligence in the public sector
Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation and Ministry Secretariat General of the Presidency — Chile now has non-binding AI in the public sector rules under Oficio Circular N° 711, issued jointly by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation and the Ministry Secretariat General of the Presidency. State bodies building, buying or running artificial intelligence tools are urged toward human-centred design, explainable systems, stronger data protection, and staff training on government use of artificial intelligence. The rules carry no binding force on agencies.

SONDA — SONDA's Tech Trends study puts some degree of AI adoption among Chilean companies at 88%, up from 16% in its previous edition. Of those, 40% are exploring or piloting, 30% apply it to some processes, 13% treat it as a strategic pillar and 5% have woven it through the whole operation. Agrosuper — Reaching over 55 thousand small shops, minimarkets and butcheries nationwide, MAI (Modelo de Atención Inteligente) gives Agrosuper's field reps a data-driven answer to an old logistics puzzle: whom to call on next. Chile's largest food producer built the AI in retail sales optimisation engine by cross-referencing billing volume, buying patterns and each outlet's location, then ranking visit priority and frequency for AI-driven sales targeting for small retailers. Coverage and service quality have both climbed since, though only company-reported figures back that claim.

Insuco Tiburcio Saavedra / Municipalidad de Temuco — Chile now has its first public liceo running an AI security system: Insuco Tiburcio Saavedra in Temuco, fitted with a metal-detector portal and facial-recognition cameras. Dahua Technology Chile built the setup for the Municipalidad de Temuco after knife-related scares on site pushed officials to act. Trial length: six months, finished late February 2025.

National Consumer Service (Servicio Nacional del Consumidor - SERNAC) — SERNAC, Chile's consumer protection agency, addressed AI consumer protection via Resolución Exenta N° 33, guiding businesses on privacy hazards from automated tools used with shoppers. Expectations cover algorithmic disclosure, fair treatment, secure data handling, banned dark patterns, and human review of automated decision-making affecting consumers.
