Chile builds a network to independently verify public-sector AI

Red de Integridad y Estado Abierto / ECLACChile's Red de Integridad y Estado Abierto and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean are forming a network for independent public-sector AI oversight. Public institutions will first register the AI systems they run and self-assess against ECLAC's standard, before verification and oversight; the Comptroller General alone keeps audit powers, and algorithmic transparency leads the agenda.

Chile's energy regulator uses AI to catch uncertified electrical imports

Superintendencia de Electricidad y Combustibles (SEC)Chile's electricity and fuels regulator, the SEC, uses AI import inspection to catch uncertified electrical products entering the country sooner. Reading import data, raising alerts and ranking controls by risk, the tools lifted the certified share from 88% to 95% and cut months-long detection times, the regulator says. An SEC AI assistant also answered over 60% of queries during electricity-subsidy applications.

Quillota hospital starts an AI surgical-management system in its theatres

Hospital Biprovincial Quillota PetorcaHospital Biprovincial Quillota Petorca began SITGEQ, AI surgical management with real-time dashboards, in pre-surgery and, from 27 July, its operating theatres. GesNova Salud's system gathers clinical records, waiting-list status, theatre timetables and patient tests so teams follow each case from surgical request to operation. Hospital director Eduardo Lara Hernández highlights its data analytics and AI; the goals are better theatre use, fewer cancellations and shorter public-network surgical waiting lists. Two of the Viña del Mar Quillota Petorca health service's three high-complexity hospitals now use it.

Method and sources

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.

The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 1114 entries across 249 countries.
