CXC replaces coursework with invigilated exams over generative AI

Caribbean Examinations Council — The Caribbean Examinations Council is dropping school-based assessments in non-practical subjects for Paper 032, sat under invigilation, blaming fast-spreading generative artificial intelligence; the CXC AI policy came from Barbados, 16 July 2026. Losers include Mathematics, English, Caribbean History, Social Studies and Principles of Business, while Agricultural Science, Visual Arts, Music and other hands-on courses retain theirs. Regional exam AI rules hit CAPE from May-June 2027 and bind CSEC by May-June 2028. Registrar Dr Wayne Wesley called qualification integrity non-negotiable.

Barbados launches an AI shopping assistant tracking 400,000 products

Ministry of Energy and Business, Barbados — The Ministry of Energy and Business launched AI shopping assistant Ask Dealia on 15 July 2026 at the Warrens Office Complex, St Michael, Barbados. Infolytics built the app, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs runs the service, and agent Dealia mines shoppers' conversations for bargains alongside live supermarket prices, promotions, events and personalised recommendations. Infolytics chief executive Quinn Weekes counts 400,000-plus products, 2,000 companies on the AI price-comparison tool.
