Mincyt deploys AI to assess earthquake damage from satellite imagery

Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt) — AI damage assessment earthquake response now runs at Mincyt, Venezuela's Ministry of Science and Technology, which built the system after the double earthquake of June 24. Drone and satellite feeds train the model to spot, classify and flag structural harm, plotting results onto colour-coded maps graded from critical red down to minor yellow. Output reaches the armed forces, civil protection teams and the presidential infrastructure commission, giving relief coordination a shared, geo-tagged picture of where damage is worst — a form of AI-based infrastructure damage categorisation applied directly to disaster response.

Venezuela presents ethics code for responsible AI development

Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt) — Nine principles now anchor AI regulation Venezuela, among them humanist AI, equity, safety and environmental responsibility. This new AI ethics framework, unveiled by Venezuela's Ministry of Science and Technology, is called the Code of Ethics for the Development and Responsible Application of Artificial Intelligence, meant to steer tech use on ethical grounds. A related law has cleared its first National Assembly reading.

Hospital Clínico Universitario resumes robotic surgery with AI

Hospital Clínico Universitario (UCV) — UCV has relaunched AI in robotic surgery in Venezuela, pairing a multi-arm robot with AI tools and a digital platform linking records to booking.
