Trinidad and Tobago judiciary issues practice direction on AI use in courts

Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago — Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh has signed off on a Practice Direction on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Court Proceedings, giving Trinidad and Tobago's Judiciary a rulebook for AI use in courts. Staff may lean on the tool for drafting and admin only once outputs are checked by a person, fabricating evidence with it is banned outright, and its use must be flagged in any filing; reasoning through a case or writing a judgment stays strictly a human job for judicial officers, so generative AI in judicial proceedings stops there. Fabricated citations and confidentiality leaks were the risks driving the change.

Trinidad and Tobago launches AI Academy for 100 public servants

Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence — A new six-month pilot called the AI Academy gives roughly 100 government workers in Trinidad and Tobago structured AI training for public servants, starting 3 February 2026. A group of 10 will go further, prototyping two to three AI applications inside a protected testing sandbox. Behind the scheme sits the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, working alongside UNDP, UNICC and CAF to build AI skills development in government.

Trinidad and Tobago launches an AI-avatar learning platform for schools

Ministry of Education — Trinidad and Tobago's education ministry launched an AI learning platform for secondary students, centred on an interactive AI avatar that walks pupils through problems step by step. Spanish, ICT, integrated science, social sciences, English language arts and mathematics are covered, rolling out term by term, with laptops for Form Two teachers of those subjects. Education minister Michael Dowlath says one more explanation often separates a student who cannot do something from one who understands.
