Ironhack trains over 120 Puerto Rican civil servants in AI for Government

Departamento de Desarrollo Económico y Comercio (DDEC) — Over 120 civil servants from eight Puerto Rico agencies received AI training for government employees during the week of 7 April 2025, via 'Inteligencia Artificial para el Gobierno' (AI for Government). Microsoft and PRITS backed the Departamento de Desarrollo Económico y Comercio (DDEC), which assembled staff from Education, Health, Family, Treasury, Public Security, Housing, Justice, the Planning Board, Budget Office, Medical Services Administration and Police. Coursework covered machine-learning basics, public-agency applications and hands-on tool practice — an AI for Government course others might replicate.

Puerto Rico Senate passes bill to create government AI officer and framework

Senado de Puerto Rico — Puerto Rico AI regulation took a step forward when the Senado passed Senate Bill 68, giving rise to the Ley de Inteligencia Artificial del Gobierno de Puerto Rico. This government AI policy bars agencies from deploying any AI tool that fails ethical benchmarks once 1 January 2026 arrives, with compliance checked through recurring biennial audits. A fresh post, Oficial de Inteligencia Artificial, sits inside the Puerto Rico Innovation and Technology Service (PRITS) alongside a new AI Advisory Committee, and PRITS itself must now draft rules guiding safe, workable AI rollout across public bodies. The proposal heads next to the House of Representatives.

Business AI use centres on innovation, process automation, and marketing and data analysis. It rests on a convenience sample of 555 entrepreneurs gathered from September 2025 to May 2026, so it does not represent all Puerto Rican entrepreneurs.

Puerto Rico's Centro Médico adds an AI-assisted emergency CT scanner

Centro Médico de Puerto Rico (ASEM) — Centro Médico de Puerto Rico's emergency room, run by the island's Medical Services Administration (ASEM), has brought in AI-assisted CT scanning, part of roughly US$1.8 million in investment. ASEM's director says the RapidAI platform will process images and aid clinical analysis, backing radiologists and doctors while leaving clinical judgement with them.
