Peru sets the profile and duties of public-sector AI officers
Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Peru — Peru AI regulation places an accountable official inside public bodies: Resolution 004-2026-PCM/SGTD of 19 October 2026 approves Directive 002-2026-PCM/SGTD, fixing the Artificial Intelligence Officer's profile and responsibilities. Each officer finds AI opportunities, drafts an AI Action Plan within the Digital Government Plan, and watches risk. Lima's Surco district launches Norma, a generative-AI agent for residents
Municipalidad de Santiago de Surco — The Municipality of Santiago de Surco in Lima has introduced Norma, a generative AI municipal agent answering residents day and night on local taxes, procedures, services, activities and the cultural agenda, using only official information from the municipality's database. Residents reach the virtual agent via WhatsApp or the municipal website, and Surco is reportedly Peru's first municipality with an AI virtual agent.
Superintendencia Nacional de Aduanas y de Administración Tributaria (SUNAT) — Peru's tax and customs agency SUNAT has found more than 34,000 people letting property through platforms such as Booking and Airbnb, who are now regularising their taxes. Head Franco Castillo says AI tax enforcement and data analytics already spot patterns of unregistered commercial activity, especially in imports and e-commerce.

Poder Judicial del Perú — Peru's Poder Judicial has put ChatBot CURIA, an AI case-law assistant, into the National Superior Court of Specialised Criminal Justice, the Superior Court of Justice of Lima and the Superior Court of Justice of Lima Norte. Built in-house by the Supreme Court's Fifth Transitional Chamber, the intelligent search tool covers over 500,000 fully integrated rulings, may reach 6 million jurisprudential records nationally, and answers judges and staff on legislation, case law and doctrine. Interbank — Interbank has become the first Peruvian bank with a direct Anthropic agreement, deploying Claude Enterprise to an initial group of staff including knowledge workers and specialist technology teams. Training and support programmes accompany this enterprise AI in banking rollout to keep adoption responsible, the bank says. Mibanco launches AI conversational banking on WhatsApp
Mibanco — Mibanco, part of Grupo Credicorp and Peru's leading microfinance lender, has introduced AI conversational banking on WhatsApp, built with Amazon Web Services. Since launching by November 2025, the service has let customers open digital accounts, check balances and view product details in the chat; a February 2026 stage adds credit applications, QR payments and transfers. Mibanco aims for its generative AI banking channel to resolve 90% of queries, with only 10% passed to human agents.
BCP adds generative AI to Clara assistant on WhatsApp
Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP) — Banco de Crédito del Perú wired generative AI into Clara, its WhatsApp helper, a Peru banking chatbot leap dated July 2025. Compañía de Minas Buenaventura — Compañía de Minas Buenaventura is rolling its self-built AI mining software, YupAI, out to two further sites, El Brocal and Uchucchacua, having already proven the tool at San Gabriel. Its name comes from the Quechua verb for 'to count', and it applies open-source algorithms toward AI-driven resource estimation, projecting key variables with no need for new drilling or laboratory work. That earlier deployment alone modelled 390 drill holes absent chemical assays, sparing roughly six months plus the extra expense.
Universidad Autónoma del Perú launches AI platform URUK
Universidad Autónoma del Perú — Peru's Universidad Autónoma del Perú has introduced URUK, an AI-powered virtual learning platform built and trained entirely in-house, without relying on an external vendor. Fed by the institution's own library holdings, the system delivers automatic summaries, indexes texts, answers queries instantly and converts readings into podcasts for study, applying the Cornell note-taking method. San Marcos University launches ChatGPT tool to combat harassment
Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) — Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos built BEA, an AI harassment support tool for spotting warning signs, learning rights and finding reporting channels. Microsoft's Global AI Diffusion study derives that generative AI use estimate from pooled, anonymised telemetry, corrected for operating-system and device mix, connectivity and headcount.
COSAPI deploys AI system for HR recruitment and training
COSAPI — Peruvian builder COSAPI now screens, trains and evaluates job candidates through COSAPIA, an HR platform marking one of the earliest large-scale uses of AI in human resources recruitment nationwide. A WhatsApp chatbot answers queries, cross-checks paperwork against official databases, and fires off notifications and reports unattended — automated candidate screening replacing manual work.
Jockey Plaza launches MIA AI assistant for visitors
Jockey Plaza — Lima's Jockey Plaza now runs MIA, an AI virtual assistant for shopping malls, built with AIFINDR to answer visitor questions instantly via WhatsApp and the mall's site. Shoppers get store directions, tailored suggestions, and event or promotion updates from the chatbot. Management calls it the region's first mall with this kind of automated visitor guidance.
Peru approves its first technical standard for AI management systems
Instituto Nacional de Calidad (Inacal) — NTP-ISO/IEC 42001:2025 gives Peru its first technical standard for AI management systems, set by the National Institute of Quality (Inacal) under the Ministry of Production. Based on ISO/IEC 42001, it guides organisations in building and improving such a system, covering oversight, targets, hazard evaluation and impact review — Peru's new yardstick for artificial intelligence governance.
