NADRA moves three million pensioners onto AI face verification

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)More than three million Pakistani retirees now confirm pension eligibility through AI face verification pensioners technology instead of fingerprint scans, under a newly activated National Pensioners Verification System run by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Coverage spans federal, provincial, military and autonomous-institution pension schemes, targeting older and disabled claimants whose worn prints routinely defeated fingerprint readers, with Pakistan's Prime Minister launching the system on 20 August 2026. Each successful scan triggers an automatic digital Proof-of-Life Certificate, logged straight into the Pension Controller Register System without manual paperwork. This marks a shift toward facial biometrics for pension verification across Pakistan's public retirement system.

Method and sources

Every entry on this page is a named organisation putting AI to work in a real job, taken from the State of Applied AI record. Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.

The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 1114 entries across 249 countries.
