Digital Ministry of Malaysia — Malaysia's Digital Ministry has finalised the draft of the country's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance Bill, advancing Malaysia AI regulation toward Cabinet submission ahead of an expected Parliament tabling by the first quarter of 2027. The legislation proposes a Central AI Authority tasked with overseeing compliance and enforcement, forming one strand of a wider framework that blends technical standards, rules and statutes. The Bill represents the legal component of that broader structure, built to combine binding law with softer standards-based governance.

Malaysia opens free AI tool access to 100,000 young people

Government of Malaysia — Malaysia's AI Untuk Rakyat programme gives 100,000 young people three months of free AI access to premium generative tools once they finish six self-paced modules. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced it in the 2026 National Day Premier Address on 30 August; the tools include Google's Gemini, YTL's ILMUChat, Alibaba Cloud's MuleRun and WonderClip, under the AI Nation 2030 aspiration.

Malaysia adds agentic AI to its MyGOV public-services app

Ministry of Digital — Malaysia's Ministry of Digital added agentic AI for public services to the MyGOV Malaysia app, letting citizens describe needs in everyday language and get step-by-step help, such as looking up and then settling a police summons. The app had over 2.9 million users by July 2026 across 52 services from 19 agencies; the AI arrives in phases with attention to privacy and human control.

Malaysia replaces its AI office with a permanent AI corporation

Ministry of Digital, Malaysia — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has created AI Malaysia Berhad under the Ministry of Digital, making the National AI Office set up in December 2024 permanent with an implementation mandate. A Malaysia AI Safety Institute also launched to support national AI governance on standards and compliance, run AI safety evaluations and broker talent and technology partnerships.

Malaysia funds a RM110 million AI upskilling roadshow

TalentCorp — TalentCorp and EY Consulting launched Jelajah AI MyMahir in Sungai Buloh, a RM110 million applied AI upskilling programme opened by Human Resources Minister Ramanan Ramakrishnan. Across 60 constituencies, hands-on AI learning reaches small business owners, entrepreneurs, women, workers and students; TalentCorp expects about 22,000 Malaysians, 12,000 via the roadshow and 10,000 via its other programmes.

IJM opens an RM18 million AI control centre for three highways

IJM Corporation — IJM opened an RM18 million Smart Highway Traffic Control Centre at the Besraya Loke Yew toll plaza lay-by, watching its Besraya, New Pantai Expressway and Kajang-Seremban concessions through 144 CCTVs, 87 video incident detection systems, 35 automatic number plate recognition scanners and 22 variable message signs. The AI highway monitoring flags congestion, pedestrians on the carriageway, early flood signs, liquid spillage, potholes, dumped rubbish, wrong-way and reversing vehicles, illegal lane changes, hard-shoulder stops and illegal advertising banners and posters, and counts vehicles by class. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi officiated, and the centre's smart highway data feeds the Malaysian Highway Authority's national traffic management centre.

Pos Malaysia launches first autonomous logistics vehicle

Selangor to install 150 AI fall-detection devices for elderly residents

Selangor state government — Selangor's state government will pilot 150 AI fall detection devices in elderly care centres and private homes from June 2026, through state foundation Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor with South Korean tech firm UNIUNI. Infrared sensors track movement, and if someone falls the system detects it fast and alerts care-centre operators or others responsible for immediate help, says foundation chief executive Gan Pei Nei. Devices go in only with residents' consent.
