Digital Brunei Council, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications — Brunei Darussalam merged its AI policy for the public sector into Digital Brunei 2030: The Digital Brunei Transformation Plan, launched 2 June 2026 by the Digital Brunei Council, joining four digital strategies under one roof, including the cross-cutting Data and Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Priorities range across governance, infrastructure, workforce skills, innovation and global ties, seeking a firmer AI ecosystem inside government. Metrics track trained officials, AI-backed pilots and overall public-sector AI maturity.
Brunei's AI ethics guide gets a second edition covering generative AI
Authority for Infocommunications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam — Brunei Darussalam's Authority for Infocommunications Technology Industry has overhauled the Guide on Artificial Intelligence Governance and Ethics into a second edition. Generative AI hazards now enter Brunei AI governance, showcased through Bruneian companies already running the principles-based approach. AITI has separately released a Guide on Responsible Use of Generative AI — Brunei Darussalam AI ethics guidance on wording requests, and doing so ethically.

Brunei starts a national AI programme aimed at 550 MSMEs
Brunei Economic Development Board — Brunei Economic Development Board has begun AI adoption for MSMEs through the AI for MSME Advancement in ASEAN programme: 550 firms by May 2027, in 11 cohorts. Small-business artificial intelligence training shows owners to write promotional posts automatically, answer buyers faster through AI-powered chatbots, and hold stock, sales and daily records together.

Brunei PMO deploys AI for civil service recruitment and policy drafting
Prime Minister's Office (PMO) — AI recruitment for civil servants is advancing in Brunei, where the PMO (Prime Minister's Office) backs a Public Service Commission tool that automatically vets job candidates during hiring. Elsewhere, the Public Service Department has teamed with Intel and the Commonwealth Secretariat on StrategusAI, an AI-assisted drafting toolkit trialled by ministries shaping regulations. Fiji alone joins this pilot.

Jets Sdn Bhd — Near the Muara port town in Brunei Darussalam, Jets Sdn Bhd has unveiled what it calls Southeast Asia's first net-zero-emission AI shrimp farm. Solar arrays supply energy while automated systems oversee blue shrimp breeding, blending renewable power with eco-friendly production methods under the AI in aquaculture approach. The firm describes the venture as a breakthrough for the nation's fisheries sector.
Brunei education ministry issues GenAI guidance for schools
Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam — A handbook titled 'GenAI Guidance for Education – Handbook Edition', issued by Brunei's Ministry of Education, sets AI in education standards for students and teachers, spanning safety, honesty and privacy. Its rules echo the AITI AI ethics guidelines and Personal Data Protection Order, embedding generative AI adoption within existing national policy.
Baiduri Bank upgrades Emmi chatbot to generative AI
