Laos backs its draft national AI strategy in principle

Government of Lao PDR — The Lao cabinet agreed in principle on the draft National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026-2035 at a 22-23 September session under Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, advancing Laos AI policy. The Ministry of Technology and Communications must revise the national AI plan towards infrastructure, databases, skilled staff and AI's highest-value uses.

Laos launches LaoAI assistant for civil servants on G-Chat v2

Ministry of Technology and Communications — LaoAI, a new government AI assistant for civil servants, launched alongside G-Chat v2 in Laos on 6 April 2026. Built by the Ministry of Technology and Communications, the tool drafts and summarises documents, retrieves regulatory information and translates text across all ministries, supporting AI for public administration nationwide. Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith attended, and the minister pressed every state body to adopt it for daily work.

Laos launches first AI cattle management system in pilot project

National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute — Laos' National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, partnering WHYBIZ Corp and KOTRA, trials the nation's inaugural AI livestock management proof of concept. RFID ear tags, remote servers and algorithmic surveillance show farmers each beast's identity, wellbeing, breeding and whereabouts instantly. First at the Livestock Research Center and a Brahman cattle farm, AI herd tracking should reach 18 further locations.
