Taiwan targets 500,000 AI professionals by 2040

Government of Taiwan — Taiwan's AI Talent Ark Project targets training at least 500,000 AI professionals by 2040, backed by more than NT$40 billion (US$1.26 billion) for ten major artificial intelligence projects next year. Taiwan's AI Basic Act enters into force in January

Government of Taiwan — President Lai Ching-te promulgated Taiwan's AI Basic Act, in force since 14 January 2026 after the Legislative Yuan passed it on 23 December 2025. The principle-based Taiwan AI regulation names the National Science and Technology Council as central competent authority and has agencies help their sectors write AI safety guidelines and codes of practice. It also tells government to use AI to protect workers' rights and tackle skills mismatches.

Almost half of surveyed Taiwanese firms have scaled AI use

Artificial Intelligence Foundation — The Artificial Intelligence Foundation's 2026 survey of 228 companies in more than ten sectors lifted its AI adoption in Taiwan score to 43.62 from 36.77 a year earlier. Firms at the Ready AI or Scaling AI stages made up 47.8 per cent, and those still classed Unknowing AI fell to 26.8 per cent. ICT leads while mining, fishing, forestry, farming, construction and engineering trail well behind.
