Maldives launches Digital for All campaign to build national AI literacy

Government of Maldives — Digital for All, the Maldivian Government's AI literacy programme, targets 225,000 people by 2028 under the Maldives 2.0 agenda. The Ministry of Homeland Security and Ministry of Education jointly run the three-year scheme, offering free Dhivehi and English instruction via facilitators, island councils and online tools as part of wider digital skills training. Graduates earn nationally recognised digital competency badges.

Maldives announces AI regulation bill as part of digital reform package

Government of Maldives — Maldives will submit a Maldives AI regulation bill to Parliament, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu confirmed, packaged alongside a Digital Transformation Bill, Digital Identity Bill and Cyber Security Bill covering artificial intelligence oversight. The four measures anchor the Maldives 2.0 digital transformation agenda, which targets full state-system digitisation by 2027. This push forms one strand of a wider digital-governance overhaul, not a standalone law.

Bank of Maldives expands Aaya AI assistant to handle banking service requests

Bank of Maldives — Bank of Maldives customers can now file banking service requests directly through Aaya, an example of an AI virtual assistant in banking absorbing tasks once handled by a separate messaging feature. The AI-powered digital assistant, built into the mobile app and Internet Banking platform, answers in real time in Dhivehi and English.
