Serbia's eGovernment portal adds AI assistant for passports
Office for IT and eGovernment — Serbia's Office for IT and eGovernment will launch an AI assistant for passport appointments by late September 2026, automating identity card and passport bookings on the eGovernment portal. Director Mihailo Jovanovic told RTS users will ask, in natural language, for the nearest police station opening. Testing is underway, with plans to extend this conversational AI for government services to school and kindergarten enrolment.

Serbia prepares first artificial intelligence law
Government of Serbia — Serbia's Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation aims to pass the country's first Serbia AI law by December 2026. Modelled on the EU AI Act, the draft sorts systems by risk into prohibited, high-risk, medium-risk and minimal categories, backed by a new AI Agency and a registry for the riskiest tools. The resulting Serbian AI regulation would give the country its own dedicated framework for governing AI use.

Serbia publishes draft data protection law with AI-specific rules

Running on domestic infrastructure, including the Kragujevac supercomputer, the AI-powered social welfare chatbot clarifies rules rather than ruling on claims, leaving final decisions to human caseworkers.

Serbia trains 1,500 civil servants on Microsoft Copilot AI tools

Serbian interior ministry deploys facial recognition software

Council for Artificial Intelligence established by government decision
Government of the Republic of Serbia — A decision by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, published in the Official Gazzette on 31 July 2024, gave the country its Council for Artificial Intelligence, a step shaping Serbia AI policy. Prof. Dr. Igor Peško leads the group, whose ranks pull together voices from public administration, universities and business to steer and check progress on the nation's AI development strategy. Beyond advising, members are charged with shaping and reviewing the strategy's action plan and pushing forward legislation and rules touching artificial intelligence.
National Bank of Serbia will use AI model to track prices
National Bank of Serbia — Retailers must now publish daily price lists, feeding National Bank of Serbia (NBS) AI price tracking that produces short-term inflation estimates, says Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic. Serbia opens €127m AI dispatch centre for rail network

Each one is traced to the report it came from and dated, and where a figure is the organisation’s own the entry says so rather than presenting it as an independent result. Readiness, ecosystem and policy figures, where shown, are attributed on the card to the body that published them.
The record is maintained continuously by the Industrial Research Unit of the Straits Institute for Applied AI: entries are added as they are found and verified, not on a schedule, and nothing is published without an open source behind it. It currently holds 4731 entries across 249 countries.
