Åland parliament adopts AI oversight law under EU AI Act

Ålands lagting — Ålands lagting has passed the Landskapslag om tillsyn över artificiell intelligens (AI Oversight Law), transposing the EU AI Act into legislation for the autonomous region. Following two readings, the statute names Datainspektionen as the supervisory authority responsible for enforcement, giving the body powers over AI system oversight and compliance across Åland's jurisdiction. The framework applies AI system compliance regulation modelled on the AI Act's structure, adapted to the islands' devolved legal system.

Åland government adopts AI policy for public administration

Ålands landskapsregering — The Government of Åland has adopted an AI policy for public administration, setting rules on permitted AI uses in its agencies. Deployments need a prior risk assessment, and invoice processing is named as a priority use case for pattern recognition cutting manual work. This is Åland's first formal AI governance policy for government operations.

Åland University launches AI tool for small tourism businesses

Högskolan på Åland — Högskolan på Åland's Light in the Dark project has produced Tourism Business Idea Generator, an AI for tourism businesses tool with a €20,000 budget. Small and medium operators around the Baltic Sea can use it for custom low-season products and marketing content, no prompt engineering required.
